I think I’m getting in over my head. I have learned that best results for subs happen when each is controlled by DSP individually. The SHD can do that for 2 subs, but not 3. So I got a 2x4HD and put the subs on that. Using REW, I set the volume and timing balance for all 3 on the 2x4HD. That part was fine.

Now I have several problems matching the 2x4HD to the SHD. The most basic problem is that I want the 2x4HD to be a “dumb” slave to the SHD. I want all the settings on the 2x4HD to stay fixed over time. If I change the master volume on the SHD, it will reduce the voltage on the analog signal to the 2x4HD, but the master volume on the 2x4HD should not change. Any suggestions most appreciated.

1. Both the SHD and the 2x4HD have an infrared remote, and they both seem to respond to either. What I would like is to use one remote for the SHD and have the 2x4HD ignore it. I would like the 2x4HD to ignore all remote input and simply stay where it was set. No, taping over the IR sensor doesn’t freeze the settings on the 2x4HD. If I change the master volume on the SHD,, for example, it changes on the 2x4HD as well, not in absolute sync, but if it goes down in one by 3db it goes down in the other by 3db. Usually. I think. Not positive but it appears that way.

2. When I set the timing and volume matching for the subs, I did it talking via USB directly to the 2x4HD. I would have preferred to talk to the SHD and have it forward the REW signals to the 2x4HD, but it never worked. Is there a way to do that? It should have been straight analog out of SHD to analog in to 2x4HD. But no sound. I could see the meters reacting, but no sound.

3. Assuming #2 above isn’t solvable, I now have a timing issue to deal with. Since all the sub timing and volume adjustments were made talking directly to the 2x4HD, now, when I play music through the SHD, there is an extra delay while the signal now passes through both the SHD and the 2x4HD. REW measurements didn’t know about that. Further, I understand that the timing delay depends on frequency and other factors., so maybe adding a blanket adjustment (delay) won’t work well. So, if I can’t get REW to measure the output from both the SHD and the 2x4HD operating in daisy-chain fashion, what is the best recourse?

That gap in the post above is because the system took out this paragraph, which I mistakenly put in brackets:

I have not tried sending a digital signal from the SHD to the 2x4HD because I didn’t see how to go from coax (SHD) to optical (2x4HD ). I realize that causes an extra D/A/D conversion, which has timing and sound quality issues. I believe there are little coax to toslink optical converters, but I viewed that as equally troublesome. But if it solves some of the problems listed below, I’ll gladly try it.?
