I currently have Behringer Ultracurve and Ultradrive. I've written a summary of active options for DIYers on my blog:

redspade-audio.blogspot.com/2010/06/active-options.html

I've only recently discovered MiniDSP and I'm very impressed so far. Seems to me that leaving out balanced circuits and SMPS is a good thing.

I'd like to hear thoughts on MiniDSP vs these units. Not so much worried about features as I think MiniDSP seems to do all that's needed. I'm more interested in things like the quality of the DAC. Thoughts anyone?

PS - hope you don't mind me using the image in the blog

Paul,

Nice entry in your blog and thanks for spreading the word!

With regards to comparing miniDSP to a Behringer / Rack mount DSP product, wont' say anything apart from the fact that product architecture (I/O unbalanced vs balanced), concept (flexible hardware + plug-ins updated over time vs fixed architecture), size (3"x3" board vs rackmount) price and manufacturer (multinational selling by the 10000's) should be telling you that you're not really comparing apples to apples...

Anyway, i understand that this topic comes back often and to many of you a DSP is a DSP but it's not that simple... So we'll just leave it to what I just said above and hopefully let people realize the very different product philosophy behind each products. :-)

My 2cts.

I have some experience with the DCZ2496, and the miniDSP is quite comparable in terms of noise and general performance. Obviously the DCX has 6 o/p, but apart from that I prefer the miniDSP
