Hi,

I have problem to make miniDsp to work:

- Current configuration: miniDsp + miniDigi + Software miniDsp 2Way-v4

- The output of miniDsp (out1,2,3,4) are connecting to my pre and power amp.

- I connected miniDigi with Digital output from my CD player; I was able to see the Input RMS meter is moving as well output meter.

- Once in a while I could hear music come out with normal sound level.

- But now the configure cannot product any music unless I turned the volume level very high but it come with a lot of noise and seems the output level is very very low.

- I have tried to restore all the factory setting but it still didn't work.

So how can I proof it is not a hardware issue and what are the next steps to check the boards?

Thanks
Gary

how are your settings for external volume in the software? The noise could also be incorrect clock jumpers on the board,

External volume setting - the color of enable button should be gray. Both clocks on board should be slave.

Gary,

It seems quite odd and indeed could sound like a misconfiguration rather than a problem with the board. Here is what could be done:

- Step 1: Make sure that you have miniDSP latest version running on your PC. If you had previous versions installed, make sure you un-install them from the Windows Add/Remove programs.
- As mentioned above, the first step would be to confirm your jumper configuration. You can have a look at our jumper chart online . It's the easiest way to make sure that you have the correct jumpers.
- Do you have any volume control? If not, make sure that the button is NOT gray. See user manual for clear instruction on how to connect a pot to the board.

I maybe misread your question. I thought you had a volume pot installed. If not the button should be yellow. I have tried to enable the button (then appears grey) and that reduces the gain the way you describe. I have alsp had some noise, and both times it was wrong clock settings.

Hi,

I didn't use external volume pot.

I have tried to remove the miniDigi board and feed analogue signal into IN1 and IN2. but still no luck to make it louder. Also tried to press the reset button to by-pass th signal directly to Out3 and Out4. But still the same result.

I didn't change the clock setting. the miniDsp board is at Master. When I can change the clock?

Regards,
Gary

Take a look at the application notes. When you connect MiniDIGI, both MiniDSP and MiniDIGI should be changed to slave mode, otherwise you have distortion.

In the software you have to find the button to enable/disable external volume. This button have to be yellow.

Gary,

Did you follow the instruction we asked by having a look at our Jumper chart?
As Brian correctly pointed out, miniDIGI should be in "I2S slave" mode , miniDSP should be in "MCLK Slave mode" and your plug-in configured for I2S input when using miniDIGI stacked on top.

Please send your configuration (.xml) to us if you still have some problems, but please read charts as instructed. You can email us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Set to slave for both miniDsp and miniDigi. Still the same issue.

Then please save your configuration and email it to us (as I asked for the 3rd time now) so that we can see how it's configured. Are you seeing any metering on the input? What source did you connect to this board? Being a revB board, you have to make sure it's a strong signal. If you connect a small source (e.g Ipod I can tell you that it won't work not the right sensitivity). RevB is 2Vrms (5.6Vpp) so only for sources with high gain.

FYI, when you have issues, you need to provide a lot more info than "it doesn't work" or not following our clear instruction (i.e. read manual, i.e. read chart) otherwise you're not making the task easier on us here... and end result is that it's going to take a long time to fix what I think is a very basic issue. Thanks for your help!

Hi,

I have sent the configure file to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Tried to re-read all the instructions both miniDsp and miniDigi and ensure my jumpers setting are correct and properly follow.

I am using a CD player with digital output and analogue output sources. I trusted it can reach 2Vrms.

As mentioned before, the same configure worked before and I didn't change any setting before it failed.

Got the configuration. Couldn't see anything wrong with it and it ran fine.

Are you seeing any metering on the input? Any movement of the meters up and down?

This troubleshooting is quite hard remotely, with 1/2 of the answers to the questions we ask. Easiest is for our Tech support team to contact you and take it from there. We will contact you tomorrow.

Hi,

Yes, the input and output meters are jumping up and down properly.
