hi all,

i purchased a minidsp 2x8 kit and the 4x10 plugin. i was able to launch the plugin. however, connecting the 2x8 kit via usb, i cannot sync and i think i was getting the message "cannot connect to the system." and then it retries thrice. tried installing the software plugin to another laptop. but after launching the plugin and connecting the hardware via usb, i still get the same message. i also tried connecting 12v dc power to the hardware but still get the same message when i hit the sync button.

please help.

Just to make sure: miniDSP 2x8 needs external (12V) dc power supply. It is not USB-powered!
Thus you should connect 12V dc power supply first (blue LED should blink with 1Hz) and then retry to synchronize.

Larry,

As per Curryman's suggestion, please have a look a the user manual of the 2x8. You "must" use a 12VDC, 2A power supply at least to make sure the board is powered correctly. A blue LED will come up when you do.

hi guys,

i already connected a 12vdc supply to the board. i can't seem to find the blue led that is supposed to blink. where exactly is the led positioned in the board?

btw, i'm using windows 7. are there any issues regarding minidsp 2x8 with this operating system? i asked because i can't seem to install microsoft .net framework in my computer. i always get an error message when i try to install said software. btw, i have no problems with my 2x4 minidsp in a box using this operating system.

thanks in advance.

If the blue LED is not glowing, the power supply of the board is not working properly.

What are the specifications of your power supply? As DevTeam posted, the power supply must be able to deliver at least 2A at 12Vdc.

You should also check if the enable REM in/out jumper (J25) is set. If J25 is open you need to connect REM in to 12Vdc too.

curryman,

i'm using a regulated dc supply that outputs 12.8v according to my digital tester. rated at 3A minimum.

there is a jumper in j25. i still am not seeing any blue led blinking. just where exactly is it located in the board?

thanks for responding.

OK, Power supply should be sufficient, at least power wise. There is no specification in the user manual nor in the data sheet about the maximum voltage allowed, but 12.8V should not be a problem (DevTeam?).

The power LED is a small surface mounted device, colored white if not glowing. However you will definately see if it is lightened, it's quite glare!

Please find info about the position of the LED in the following picture:

Thanks curryman. I hope DEVTEAM can provide some answers. I have pending projects that require minidsp 2x8. I'm also building my own multi-amped horn speaker system. I really need the xover now.

@ Igroxas3,

This is very odd indeed. In your earlier message you didn't even have a 12V supply connected so it's expected that you wouldn't be able to "see" the unit in Windows (not a USB powered unit).

Now that you have a power supply, did you have a try with a multimeter to make sure that the polarity is correct? At this point of time, getting the board to correctly power up and show up a Blue LED is step ONE. If you don't have a blue LED, we need to understand why because all boards ships with it.

Please use a multimeter to confirm your power supply, feel free to send some pics in the mean time.

curryman and devteam,

thank you very much for your support. it actually is a power supply problem. i asked my technician to fix the dc output of my reg. supply to 12v and not any higher. it seems that the board has a circuit protect whenever the voltage fed is above 12v.

it is now working! and i'm one happy guy! i will post later pictures of the minidsp board in its wooden housing.

thanks again.

this is the casing i made with the minidsp 2x8.

my practice speakers. bi-amped at the moment. you'll also notice the minidsp in a box attached at the sides of the wood rack.

the minidsp 2x8 is working flawlessly now.

Woww... very nice wood box and glad to hear that all is working well!

Could you please post it in the Hifi project section? It would be a great place for sharing your project. Thanks!
