In the mean time I have disabled the windows firewall and I have no antivirus software. All machines have the same setup and auto W10 updates applied.
I need to do this between work tasks so is a bit irregular.

On the lab PC, all is well, DDCR-24 calls DL and it works as advertised.

I then moved to my laptop, and there the call from DDRC-24 doesn't work, but I can call DL directly, outside of DDRC-24, and it comes up and recognize the Flex and appears to work (haven't had time to go through the whole process yet).

Thinking there's maybe an issue with that laptop, I installed it on another, older laptop that I have laying around, also W10 Pro,
and there DDRC-24 does not call DL, and if I call DL directly it does recognize the Flex but tells me 'miniDSP device is reacting unusual, please reset it', which I do but that has no effect.
I noticed that there is some communication though because the volume on the Flex is reset to -127.5dB when DL comes up.

So that's where I am at this point. Apologies for any confusion I caused.

OK, here is the status as of today 29 Sep.
I have it running correctly (DL is called from the DDRC-24 plugin) on the PC in my lab.
But I need to set up something to demo at an audio show later this year, so I installed everything on my laptop.
On the laptop, DDRC-24 will not call DL (just a short screen flicker and then nothing. Windows Task Manager shows DL is not running).
Last time I tried, a few weeks ago, I could call DL directly and it recognised the Flex and ran normally.
Today I picked up again, calling DL directly it recognised the Flex but then DL complains 'cannot control the miniDSP Flex', 'miniDSP Flex behaves in unexpected way', 'cannot reset master Level' and occasionally 'internal error 1003'.
So I installed the whole shebang on a different laptop (I have two), same problems as described before.
I installed the latest app version, latest DSP app, flashed the latest firmware.
None of my machines have any antivirus software installed, and on the laptops I even disabled Windows firewall.
All to no avail.
miniDSP support doesn't get any further than 'please de-install then re-install the software', definitely unhelpful.

I'm ready to throw in the towel, move to REW and request my $ 199 back.
This was definitely the largest time sink with no output I ever experienced.

Did you read my post?
I got maybe 6 or 7 separate 'try this' exchanges.

Oops! I missed the line where you mentioned support in your last post  . There is obviously something unusual going on with your laptop but I'm not any sort of IT expert to try to assist I'm afraid. You could try asking for help somewhere like Audiophilestyle or ASR?

Sorry to be so direct. But I'm really pissed.
Just now I de-installed Dirac from the lab PC and the 2nd laptop.
Now, on the 1st laptop, I can call DL directly and it is able to control the Flex with no errors.
Still not able to call it from DDRC-24 though.
I've had this before, but what will it be tomorrow? I can't work this way.

Partial success. I got the miniDSP Flex app (DDRC-24) to start up Dirac Live! from within the app.
Simple: delete the file Documents\MiniDSP\[the name of your plugin]\user\preferences.xml
Apparently, it makes the plugin to actually look for the Dirac executable on your system instead of assuming it is in a specific but wrong place.
Notwithstanding that I installed Dirac at the suggested path.Ohh well. One more to go: still get the error from Dirac that the 'miniDSP Flex acts in an unusal way', 'please reset miniDSP Flex'.
Which doesn't solve it.

Edit1: The preferences file has the following path: <dirac2_path value="C:\Program Files (x86)\miniDSP\DDRC-24\add\minidsp_dirac.exe"/>
While the actual Dirac executable is at users/jandi/AppData\Local\Live\DiracLive.exe . And of course it's Dirac 3, not Dirac 2.

Edit2: the Dirac manual states: 'Be sure to plug in the UMIK-1 before starting DiracLive'.
Well, that causes the problem with the 'miniDSP Flex responsing in unexpected way'.
There must be some (usb?) conflict between the two.
If you connect the Umik mike after starting Dirac from within the miniDSP app, Dirac auto-recognises the mike after a few seconds and Bob's your uncle.

Leaves me wondering whether these issues are mine only?
