With my miniDSP 2x4 HD running the latest Windows driver and plug-in, the Format page of the miniDSP UAC2 Control Panel shows "4 channels, 24 bits" for Input and "2 channels, 24 bits" for Output. Are these correct? The channel counts for input & output seem swapped to me.

That's correct for the computer - 2 x output to the 2x4 HD, 4 x input from the 2x4 HD.

My confusion came from thinking that the displayed channels were from the 2x4 HD box perspective, as opposed to being from the computer perspective.

Does this mean it would be possible to input a digital optical signal to the miniDSP 2 x 4, have it do crossover, eq, etc, and then output that via USB to a multi channel USB Dac like, for example an Octo Research Pro 8, and get the entire signal done with not AD/DA within the miniDSP unit? And, if so, would that apply to DDRC 24 units with Dirac Live?
