Hello, Is there a software update on this processor that allows us to use FIR filters "Filtering Technology - IIR/FIR depending on plugin"
I can only use my processor with IIR

No FIR support at this point of time I'm afraid. Knowing it's 12 x out, not sure how useful that would be to be honest.. such small FIR bank size if we put on all outputs. Need to think this carefully.

Hello,I saw that you already offerV2.0 to my processor What is the main difference between C-DSP 8x12 V2.0 and C-DSP 8x12 V1.0 And if there is a difference, is it possible with a software update to upload the C-DSP version 8x12 V1.0 to V2.0?

The V2.0 is an upgrade of the hardware (ADC/DAC/DC-DC section/Op Amps) for better quality. It's exactly the same DSP/Controller as before version. You can indeed use any previously built files.

Dear support,
I met some reviews that sound quality of C-DSP 8x12 v1 although was significantly better than 6x8 has but 2x8kit provided better sound when used in car.
1) Could you give more details about DAC (which chip) please?
2) Could you give some notes on your opinion of result quality of sound of 8x12ver2 comparing to ver1 please?

The CDSP 8x12 v2 uses (AK4456) better ADC/DACs than the 2x8 to our mind. It's also a newer (more powerful DSP, floating point DSP) For that reason, we believe that the CDSP 8x12 v2 is a better choice. :-)

Dear devteam,
thank you for the answer.
I believe that model of dac chip matters but not significantly and overall dac board engineering and its power supply is very important. So we know good DACs on old chips and bad DACs ov very good chips.

My main concern is the meet results in music, that width and the depth of scene etc.
how would you compare these 2 devices from this point of view?

How would the CDSP 8x12 v2 hardware compare to the DDRC-88A?

Could a DDRC-88A work in car? The specs sheet says it uses 12VDC power.

The DDRC-88A is a Dirac Live platform. The CDSP 8x12 isn't. Maybe check out the user manual for more details but that's a big difference. :-)

We believe that some people use the DDRC-88A but note that you'd want to make sure to use a DC_DC isolator to do so. You can't just connect 12V battery to the DDRC-88A. That's for sure up for trouble knowing it's not regulated.

A lot of people (myself included) need an 8x12 because of a 6-channel front stage, 2 rear fill channels, and one subwoofer channel. This equals 9 channels total, and I don't use the other 3.

In the case of the ADSP-21489 DSP chip, it can handle 33,333 taps at 400mhz between all the channels. (1600 MMACs / 48khz) = 33,333 taps total. This makes for slightly over 8 channels of 4096 taps.

Someone could assign fewer taps to the 2 tweeter, 2 mid channels, and 2 rear fill channels and have plenty for the 9th bass channel. This is plenty of taps to be usable for FIR filtering. You guys would be one of the only manufacturers to have FIR filtering if you released this. I really hope you guys can do this.

Fir is demanded only for 6-8 channels of 12.

Not sure where that simulation comes from but aren't forgetting that the DSP need to a bit more than just doing FIR.. ;-)
Just stating that the computation of 33k should fit on the 8x12 DSP structure is a bit flawed to our thinking and experience.. but then again, maybe we're a bit biaised.. ;-)

@DevTeam - Thank you for your reply.

I was basing my calculations upon an explanation from an Analog Devices rep when I asked them about the FIR capability of that chip. So perhaps Analog Devices is flawed in their understanding of their own chips? How many taps has your team managed to get in testing with a FIR specific firmware? Keep in mind that if you guys have FIR enabled we'll be setting our own linear phase crossovers and equalization via FIR, so only routing and channel amplitude is really needed (as far as I can think).

I'm sure you guys have considered implementing a FIR plugin because you guys went out of your way to say the MiniDSP 8x12 is IIR/FIR compatible depending on the plugin in the spec sheet. I'm just voicing my desire to see this happen. I know this would be a nice competitive advantage against car DSP competitors like Helix's new DSPs and Zapco's units launching this year.

I fully agree with my colleague above. The possibility of FIR filters makes your product unique to the car audio processors (that's why I bought it). Without FIR filters, this processor does not stand out among many competing brands, I very much hope there will soon be a solution to this case (at least for most channels considering the limited CPU resource). You have unique hardware to build a phase linear caraudio system that is unique in the DIY automotive audio industry and can not be used completely and it's a pity!
