Hi all,

I've been trying to get the remote volume control to work properly with a recently purchased 2X4HD. When I set it up it was intermittent and the increments, when it worked at all, were sometimes more than 3 db per step. I understand that this problem was addressed with a new firmware.

I attempted to upgrade the firmware according to the procedure on pg 43 of the manual. The current firmware is v1.2 and the new firmware in my download is "miniDSP2X4HD_XMOS_v1.3bin".

Using the "miniDSP UAC2 DFU Tool" I selected the firmware and started the tool. After "entering upgrade mode" it said "TUSBAUDIO_GetDfuStatus:Function failed with error code 0xEE000003" then "Firmware upgrade failed". I then got a box telling me "To try again, disconnect the device, turn power off and on, and reconnect it." I did as it directed and tried again with the same result. I gave it one more try but left the 2X4 HD powered off for 1/2 hour and rebooted the laptop but got the same result.

I couldn't find any information about the error on the miniDSP website and a general google search led me to some other forum posts that dealt with the same failure on other devices but nothing about what the error meant. Any help would be appreciated.

Is it possible that you are connected to a USB1 port? Someone had an issue the other day that was related to that.

(Just a wild guess, I haven't seen the error.)

Thanks for the guess, it's more than I could come up with.

All of the ports on my laptop are usb2 but I will try the other ports tomorrow and if that doesn't work, I will try using my desktop.

I did find a thread in another newsgroup about the same problem with a different device. Though no one seemed to know what the error meant, one poster tried another machine to upgrade his device and it worked! It would be nice to have access to documentation that offered easily understood explanations of what failure errors meant, but in the meantime, I'll take any fix that will get the remote working OK.

I just purchased a the 2x4 HD and had this issue. (not sure exactly if it was the same error code)

Resolved by: Disabling Windows User Account Control (temporarily to allow the app to function)
> Control Panel > User Accounts > Change User Account Control Settings > "NEVER NOTIFY"
> Run the "miniDSP UAC2 DFU tool" and update firmware!

Hope this helps you

Sorry to say it didn't work.

It made sense to me when I thought about it but there must be something else going with my failure!?!?

If you found your solution on line and remember where you found it, would you mind giving a link or just a topic to search on? Maybe it will give me some info that I might be able to use.

Thanks again,
John

RESOLVED: A readme txt file was included in the plugin download which included this procedure:

miniDSP USB Audio 2.0 Device Firmware Upgrade steps (For Windows)

1. Install the Windows UAC2 Driver

2. Connect the miniDSP 2x4n

3. Run miniDSP UAC2 DFU Tool
Start Menu -> All Programs -> miniDSP Ltd -> miniDSP USB Audio Class2 Driver -> miniDSP UAC2 DFU Tool

3a. Click "Browse..." and choose file firmware_name.bin (eg. miniDSP2x4n_XMOS_v0.13.bin)

3b. Click "Start" and wait for the progress bar to load, this will take 30 second to a minute

3c. If the stay in "Entering upgrade mode..." for more then 30 second, replug the USB cable

I remembered reading this before I attempted to do the firmware upgrade but was using the procedure in the manual when I was actually doing it, and the manual never mentions the "30 second rule", it just assumes it will work. I guess replugging the USB cable allows the tool/device to change to upgrade mode before it eventually times out and fails with the error code.

Now I hope they really did fix the volume control with the new firmware.

@ John

So just to confirm, you did figure out how to upgrade in the end? You can double confirm from Help -> ABOUT when connected
Sometimes as per the note in that text file (that we have to move to the User manual, thanks for the warning), it could indeed hang. Just plug and plug and it will continue. It's a minor upgrade bug that we just need to notify on the user manual.

Let us know how things go.

Thanks much for the info! Very interesting indeed.. we'll look into this and most importantly remember to add it to the user manual.

Hi All,

I got the same problem, and I was actually "downgrade" from firmware v5.30 to v4. The reason for me to do this is because the v4 firmware supports 10 channels instead of 8 channels which v5.30 supports. I used miniDSP UAC2 DFU tool v3.34 in Win7 to do the firmware downgrade, and I've made sure I connect the hardware through USB2.0 port.

Is there a way I can finish downgrade or is there a way to let the hardware support 10 channels configuration?

Thanks,
Doris

You are talking about the USBStreamer? (Not 2x4 HD)?

Hi John,

Yes. The hardware I am using is USBStreamer, not 2x4 HD, but I got the same problem when dealing with the firmware. I will open a new post and describe what happened.

Thanks,
Doris

@ Doris

Best to not confused knowing these platforms are completely different. (not same chipset, not same IC)
Also note that downgrade from 5.30 to V4 isn't really straightforward (especially if you're doing it from the latest UAC2 control panel). You can't have very old firmware running with newest driver. It's a bit calling for trouble I think...
- either you use the latest driver + latest firmware.
- Or you use the old driver + old firmware.

Thanks for your understanding.
