Hi,

After installing the latest device console 1.1.12 and updating my SHD with the latest XMOS firmware 1.62 and DSP firmware 1.7, I experience a poppig sound from my speakers whenever toggling the input on my SHD. This never happened with the previous software. Other than updating the software, no change.

I did not read about this issue anywhere but cannot imagine I am the only one experiencing it?

Any ideas how to solve this annoyimg popping noise?

Best regards, Mark

Hi,
Similar problem here: popping noise when starting to play a new track on Volumio (from a NAS). This problem has only appeared now with the latest firmware.

Best wishes,
Maciej

Same for me here as well. After the latest updates my SHD makes loud high pitched popping noises through the tweeters (usually right after turning on the SHD and continues for a couple of minutes)- it sounds pretty bad and hopefully it won't damage the drivers!

Mine is doing the same as well.  I'm sure they'll get it sorted.

I still don't understand why folks are leaving their speakers active when powering or reconfiguring or etc, etc, with upstream componentry like the SHD.  (A practice possibly very dangerous to speakers.)
The SHD is preferably left on all the time anyways.  It only draws about 9 watts.

I'm very happy with my SHD studio, but the static tics (Introduced in the latest update, I guess due to the change of the volume, before the ASRC instead after) are also quite loud, that has nothing to do with shutting down you're power amp during an update.... it's also common practice for an updatable audio device that it will mute every output during an update, at some time you have to turn on your amp again...

Strange indeed dreite but that's not the isssue here, ppl do all kinds of things and not all of those actions are smart ones ^^

Hopefully the development team is able to fix the load-popping-sound. It also happens when I toggle the input on the SHD just as the topic starter described.

Yes, I'm aware that's not the particular issue here, but it is an extremely curious thing to do.
In the old days, you could equate this to turning your preamp on/off with the power amp still on.  Not a good practice to get into.  And currently, definitely not in the case where we might have tweeters directly connected to power amplifiers.
I turn off my power amps when I switch Presets on the SHD.  :)

Hi all,

Okay, seems I am not the only one. Also read about this issue on ASR in the meantime. So let's hope for a soon firmware fix.

Gladly I experience the pops only when switching inputs, and then only sometimes. Otherwise my unit (SHD 2nd gen) works and sounds great.

Besides just moving the volume control pre SRC it would be nice though to have a functionality avoiding any clipping (intersample clipping and clipping by PEQ + Dirac). Or at least a true clipping Indicator also showing single sample clipping, like implemented in my RME ADI-2 Pro FS R. Both for inputs (yes, I still use vinyl for fun) and for outputs. I am currently validating headroom with REW for each presst, which is not too convenient...

BR, Mark

Still loud popps with DSP Firmware v1.8. Combination of latest XMOS Firmware (1.63) and DSP Firmware v1.5 works perfectly.

Confirmed, DC 1.13 w. V1.8 still shows the known issues - I also reverted the DSP firmware back to V1.5 and all is fine  - will report to the support- team accordingly.

After download the latest firmware for the Flex and device console update, both my left and right speaker have subsequently blown out, emanating max volume static and then permanently hollow sounds. The left one blew out 2 days ago nearly immediately after the update, and the right one blew out just now days later... wtf is going on with this?

Where did you find V1.5? The popping sounds are getting worse - seems like it's not stopping anymore. Need to get this latest firmware off the SHD

It was part of the initial DC migration package for my SHD studio that I downloaded in 03.2023 (the DC.exe must be opened with 7zip  - inside you will find another 7z- archive that must be opened - then you need to navigate to the sub- folder "device_support_package\DSP_Structures\105" - at least this is the valid directory for the SHD studio (this may be different for other products) - there firmware 1.5 was located.
