I was using REW through my SHD. During the process, I accidentally touched the power button on my laptop. The screen went blank, and when I turned it on, the DSP Fail error came up. I followed the instructions to go through the reset process, but it won't work because the USB cannot connect. Tried different cables, different laptop, but no joy. Now MiniDSP is not responding to my emails. Anyone has a different solution? I really don't want to buy another SHD if they are so fragile. Are the Flex units any better?

How long is your USB cable? Odd question I know but I have had problems with Studio and other devices with a USB extension cable with the bundled cable including problems connecting and reflashing the DSP. You might try removing and reinstalling the console and USB driver on your laptop.

Thanks for the tips! Unfortunately I tried all of this. I even wiped my laptop and did a fresh install of EVERYTHING! No dice. Support is working with me to see if we are missing something, but I'm not hopeful. The unit won't even turn on fully. It turns on, and Windows recognizes it, but the DC cannot connect, and the unit's display never comes on.

I am pretty much out of ideas.
Tried a new USB cable?
I assume this is not a Studio so hard to verify supply is working. If it is a Studio check that the supply produces approximately 12V. (Unloaded will be a few % higher)

Yes, multiple cables tried. No SMPS. The SHD has an IEC connector for mains power.

I used to have a first gen SHD which I sold when I purchased an SHD Studio early this year. I wish you best of luck!

Hi Mike,
I have experienced other problems and I believe the Devteam are very helpful when they have the time.
Just wondered if you have a very tiny rest hole below the network and USB wifi dongle port.
I have an older Neo 1 version so if you have a Neo 2 this may not be fitted.
I dont know how to use the reset button (you need a small pin to access the button thru the hole) as there is no mention of it in the pdf "manual" but could be worth a try?

I guess your only option is to lodge a repair request with miniDSP.
Ultra kindly gave me instructions on how to do this using the forum software.
I have pasted it below.
"The way for anyone to contact miniDSP support is to click on the the Support link at the top of the page and then scroll down to the bottom and click on Submit a Ticket (assuming the info. above this doesn't lead to a resolution). I'm not sure there is an e-mail address that can be used for the same. Re. this forum, note that at the top of every thread there is a message stating this is a community forum and that the way to get official support is to do as I have just described. "

All the best Mike.

Did you try the procedure below? This is what the support team sent to me when I had a similar problem which solved the issue:

- Remove DC power
- Press reset button at back of the unit
- Plug power and turn ON unit WHILE holding the RESET button
- Try to connect with the Device Console plugin now
  1. Discover the unit with Device Console
  2. Open a new session to the unit
  3. Ignore prompt to Update the DSP Firmware - Choose Decide Later’ option
  4. Choose ‘Initialize to Default Settings’ if prompted the following

5. Choose ‘Restore Factory Settings’ if prompted the following
https://attachment.freshdesk.com/inline/attachment?token=eyJ0eXAiOiJKV1QiLCJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiJ9.eyJpZCI6NDcyMTk4NDQ4NjgsImRvbWFpbiI6Im1pbmlkc3BoZWxwLmZyZXNoZGVzay5jb20iLCJhY2NvdW50X2lkIjoxMjM0MDUyfQ.Pq5Nuwar-WYh37ziudXkvztcpzYTkgaIfsVtbN-t_io
6. The above step (#5) will re-program the DSP Firmware and initialize all the Preset settings to default.
