You mentioned few times, few threads, few forums that you've got everything you need under your Wiim streamer so I believe that you're all set and maybe we should just move on?

I’m with you on that one.

Will check in every 22 months or so to see if there’s been any progress.

I feel like you guys are getting so much negative feedback here! I have worked in software and hardware quality assurance for 18 years, and I really do let my team know when things don't work, but not by attacking them. I must commend you for staying so calm and collected in the shitstorm.

Thank you for implementing Tidal Connect. It works as expected (just with my nitpicks in earlier post :-p ) It works great!

A big thank you to minidsp and the team for implementing Tidal connect.  I did a quick test and it worked flawlessly so far.  What a great experience to be able to play music through the tidal native app, sooo much better than the old SHD Volumio Tidal integration.

Please everyone here on the forum, be aware that there are not that much hifi vendors that are willing to offer software and firmware updates or any online feedback and support whatsoever.  At least not without a yearly subscription or so.  Once the purchase is done, Minidsp really doesn't owe us anything.

Next few days and weeks, I will continue to test SHD Tidal connect and keep you posted if I encounter any issues.

For info. you'll find the same if you adjust the volume using Volumio and I believe it relates to mapping a 100 point scale across the 127.5 dB range of the SHD volume control. It would be preferable if the adjustments could mirror the 0.5 dB steps of the miniDSP remote control but I think this was dictated by the requirements for Roon certification and so I don't think this will be changed.

volume control is my one bugbear with the SHD. I've got squeezelite on it having followed the 'chrissy' method. All works well but the squeezebox volume is 0-100 so the mismatch against -127.5dB-0db makes volume via the app unpredictable and annoying.

The SHD is still a tremendous product though and I'm worried that 22months from now might be just too darn soon!

Hi ASX
Since you use squeezelite, try out the lms connect app. With this app, you can
"share" a playlist to lms. It works great. You can use the native tidal or Quobuz app to search for music and play it on lms. It's available in the 3rd party software section at the lms forum.

For what it's worth, from my testing what the volume control does is 100% repeatable and therefore strictly predictable, although not with the totally uniform increments that you and everyone else would prefer.

I wonder.. If the volume of the SHD was just cut off at -100db would that fix the mismatch without anyone caring they'd lost 27.5db of lower range?

Would seem like an easy fix that would make everyone's volume control work nicely but then I'm no software engineer.

I never realised the increments although not regular were repeatable. Maybe I'll give it another try.

I thought I'd plotted this out on a graph before but I can't find it now. Essentially trying to split a 127.5 dB range up into 100 increments would be 1.275 dB steps but all the SHD can do is multiples of 0.5 dB. Alternating 1.0 and 1.5 dB steps gives an average of 1.25 dB per step which is therefore pretty much what the SHD does, but from memory not exactly.

Did some more testing from my Android phone.  Tidal connect works great, except for one showstopper, when I do this:
  1. play some music on the shd through Tidal connect from the phone
  2. stop Tidal and switch to Minidsp Volumio app on the phone to play something from my own music library or Radio Paradise,...
  3. stop music on Volumio and switch back to Tidal app to resume playback on the shd
=> Most of the times the Minidsp-shd Tidal connect link in the app is gone.  No more possibility to playback Tidal connect over Minidsp-shd

Eventually the link comes back after a few minutes without me doing any interventions at all.  Anyone else noticed this behaviour?  Is this a known issue?

I've used it a bit more now. Most of the time it works fine. But after switching sources or stopping playback, the Tidal app is losing the grip. It often thinks it still plays back on the SHD, but it has no connection and ends up not knowing what to do, so it does nothing. After first playing music, and then watching a movie with sound through toslink (say), I have to force quit the Tidal app before I can pair again and play music. I think this is s general bug with the Tidal app, seen it before with Bluesound. It is really annoying.
