Hello,

when I saw the report about the Microsoft Surface Dial in the newsletter, I thought "cool. I want this". (Well, I am not sure if I really need it.) But then I did read

Note: the Surface Dial plugin is compatible with the Neo3 version of the SHD Series only. It is not compatible with the older Neo2 version of the SHD Series.

Now I wonder, why is this the case? What is the older platform missing that it does not support the Dial?

I read also this app note. How do I get the NeoX information out of the SHD. The included wifi dongle is not suporting BLE right?

I raised a support case to ask about the lack of support for Neo2 for this capability, and got the answer that it's because the required kernel doesn't run on the older ARM platform.

Other than this, they still say they aim to keep Neo2/3 equivalent as far as possible, which already requires a doubling of their software build/test/release cycle.
 

It would be nice if there was an upgrade path for the new hardware since they are calling the device the same name. 

I have a minidsp SHD, but at the same time I do not. 

An exchange for a minimal fee or send out a neo 3 unit with instructions on how to install. 

We are talking about extremely small differences here so personally I'm pleased this is being handled as it is rather than calling the newer one say an SHD2, since this would make many assume there are much bigger differences and so devalue the slightly older units.
