TOPIC: Problem with miniDSP SHD "Cannot control the SHD"

Hi!
I run Dirac Live 3.0, try to select miniDSP SHD in it and get this message:
The SHD is behaving in an unexpected way and may be out-of-synch with Dirac Live application. Restart the SHD.
I have rebooted SHD, computer, reset hardware to factory defaults but nothing helps. I have this problem on Windows and Mac.
What should I do?

I had the same problem with mine when I initially set it up. I t was an issue with the mic not working. We found a work around for it. I was pulling my hair out, I posted either here or on another forum I'll try and find it. I had the same problem the last time I did a room calibration as well.

my microphone works but the problem persists. I will be very grateful if you can suggest a solution!

Are you launching Dirac from within the SHD plugin? You need to.

Also, are you using Dirac version 3.05 and NOT 3.07? There was a compatibility issue with 3.07 and it should be avoided.

In the first instance I'd be tempted to try 3.05 to see if that behaves though, as it may be 3.08 has an issue...

when you are in the dirac live software where did you launch from minidsp or from the dirac plugin on your desk top?

when you are in the dirac software and you select recording device you should choose the umik 1 and have your file downloaded for the umik then proceed to volume calibration.

In the volume calibration screen when there is background noise there is a bar on the right of the mic gain it should be going up and down, It is very sensitive keyboard clicks finger snaps should get a rise out if it. (see attached file)

I'm assuming you are getting this message when you are trying to measure samples. If you do not have that bar active you will get that message you were getting cannot control the shd

okay so the work around we created was as follows:

-open DSP SHD plugin from desktop
-click on the connect icon in the top left
-then click on the start dirac live software
-select device minidsp shd
-select UMIK 1 then proceed to volume calibration
-see that mic has no gain on slider bar as you make noise.
close out dirac by clicking red x on mac
-DO NOT close out minidsp app.

-Next find the Dirac Live plugin on your desktop and open it, remember to leave the shd app open.
-If you do not go through all the previous steps this will not work.
-now with the dirac live open through the dirac plugin proceed through the same steps as before
select device minidsp shd
-select UMIK1 then proceed to volume calibration
-now this time your mic should show a rise when there is background noise
-proceed to the next prompts and when you get to measure selected positions you should be good to go.

I hope this works for you as it did for me after hours of frustration.

macOS Catalina 10.15.7

Dirace Live 3.08 and I have the same issue w/ MiniDSP DDRC-88A/BM on Windows 10.

I reverted back to 3.05 and Dirac Live connects.

Received my shd yesterday having the same problem,thought it was me!

Having the same problem here. Is there a less complex fix for this?

Bought a SHD studio 2 days ago. Had the same problem with Dirac Live version 3.08.
I use Windows 10 instead of MacOS Catalina. Spend hours with trying version 3.08.

Installed the latest version 2 (2.5.3), it works fine and it connects to the SHD Studio in a few seconds.

Now updated the software to version 3.05 as mention in this topic and it also works fine (connects slightly slower)

Fix is not really complex: De-install older or newer (3.08) version, restart of Windows 10 is not needed, download correct version and install. It takes only 2 minutes.

By the way? Is this forum monitored by miniDSP and/or Dirac Live support? (So they can fix the problem).
