Hi,

My current setup consists in :

1 AVR
1 AMP with external DAC+Opendrc
Speaker selector switch for the front speakers
Surrounds, Atmos, central and Subwoofer connected to the AV

I'm thinking on upgrading my OpenDRC with a Studio. I wonder if I can achieve to integrate the subwoofer to my stereo system while keeping it connected to the AVR at the same time....

In the guide I read that I need a second DAC for the subwoofer but I still can't understand how the connections will work. I'll be able to use both SPDIF outs simultaneously, correct ? Would a coaxial/rca splitter work in order to select the source ( AVR / SHD ) for the sub ? Lastly, on this DAC for the sub....anything ( specs..) I should be careful about when choosing it ? My budget is tight so any suggestion is welcomed!

Thanks.

Does your sub have two inputs?

Hi,

Low level Inputs ( L+R) that I'm using to connect it to the AVR and a "High Level Input Connector" that is free.

Thx

I don't understand why both inputs are connected to the AVR... but, if I understand what you're trying to do, I think the straightforward way would be to use the SHD and connect the sub output to a (low level) sub input, and just one connection from AVR to sub. Then you can sell the current DAC, one box instead of 3.

As it's been like that for the past 10 years, I can't remember the reason....I think I read some reviews on the net explaining the benefits of using both inputs with a Y splitter cable.....

Anyhow, I get it. Thanks a lot!

With a Y-splitter there would be 6dB more output, so I guess without it you would need to adjust, either in the sub gain or the trim in the AVR. But that's something you can try now to make sure it's OK.
