why would one ever pick lower than 24 bit 192kHz? There is no guidance in the owner manual an which bit depth and bit rate one should select when setting up the UAC driver for windows. (same problem with the instructions for MAC),

Good comment.. :-) If it were us we'd indeed use 24bit 192kHz this way all possible streams will be high res. Our 2cts.

Good to hear that.

Do you think there is any reason anyone would be better off to choose a lower rate in the settings of the UAC?

For example, is this a reason?:
There is a "test" button in the windows UAC. After we pick bit depth and rate, if we press "test" and do not get the test sound, should we go lower bits until we can hear it?

Not that we could think off.. But you're free to run your unit at 48k I guess if you prefer.. Not sure what would be the advantage to be honest...
