Will the USB host port be turned off when the SHD is turned off?

If so, the 5v out could be used to control this this power strip or boosted to 12v to be used as a trigger with a 12v usb boost cable like this. Some amplifiers might even trigger with 5vdc and not require the boost cable.

Hey, I've been using the SHD for the past few days and I don't believe it can actually be turned off without manually flipping the power switch on the back of the unit. I couldn't find any mention of an ability to power off in the user manual, either.

Dear Both

Currently the way to turn off the SHD is indeed via the rear. We'll soon add ability to put the system in standby mode (all analog out turned off / Front panel turned off).

when you do this can you make sure that the usb port is powered down while in standby so that it can be used as a trigger to turn on amps?

Thanks

@ devteam So you posted this 1 year and 3 months ago. I'm thrilled to know when this feature will be released. (especially since the one color OLED screens tend to burn in when they show virtually the same thing 24/7)

Well spoken, Arc! The OLEDs don't like to shine all day...

Actually I don't believe that there will be another firmware for the SHD series with substantial improvements for us consumers. Probably miniDSP staff is already working at the successor so there is no time to invest in old products. Hope i am wrong here...

Dear all,

Sorry for missing the ball on this....:-( As you've all seen, we're always pushing new features (Volumio/Dirac2 free update) so the generic statement that we're not putting any improvement into our platform nor any firmware would be released is quite harsh and not something we agree... We got busy as we try our best to please everybody's requests across many platforms, that doesn't make it a general statement that we don't support our product line and focus on new product. Our 2cts.

Comment over, we are looking at this and few things:
a)Adding a new "IR learning command" for standby is harder than expected due to the way we maxed out all the potential commands we can learn. Anyway, that will require a bit more delay as it's not straightforward.
b) Adding a timeout on the screen is however easy. It will time out after a known amount. Let's say X min? Any move of front panel, IR remote change will toggle screen on again. How many min before we turn off OLED?

Devteam, as one of the early adopters of the SHD I wanted to thank you for all the support and features you've added so far. Volumio feels much more polished, and dirac2 corrections sound better to my ears!

I'm very happy with my purchase and I'm sure the majority of SHD owners would agree with me.

As a temporary solution for standby, I set up preset 4 so it doesn't output any sound, and switch to it whenever I don't use the SHD.

As for dimming the OLED screen, I think 120 minutes would be long enough.

Thank you for your comment! The SHD is already great as is, these are just the things that give it an edge.

Is it possible to make the timeout user definable? Since it is a set and forget device, for me two minutes or so would be more than enough.

Another vote for user definable timeout - Perhaps 15min, 1hour, or 2 hour. But if that's not possible, 15 min is plenty for me.

Wow, seems I was wrong with my statement above. Nice to see that there seems to be some development. So please accept my apologies.

Regarding a time-out function for the display: I am wondering which information the other users want to look at while the display is on. For me a time out after five seconds or 30 seconds would be sufficient. No need to let the OLEDs work for a few minutes. I just need a short confirmation that a change was made.

Of course I understand that other users might have other ideas. So a configurable time out would be really great.

While speaking about improvements and the remote control options:
I understand that there are problems with learning new IR codes. As a workaround: What about a standby function (or any other function...) to be executed after a button is pressed for a few seconds? E. g. the SHD enters standby mode after you hold the "Source" button for two seconds.

The next big step would be IP control but that might be a too much to ask for...

Thank you and sorry again...

120 minutes?! why even bother at that point...

30 seconds is plenty before screen goes to black in my opinion. What information is so fascinating to look at?

Cheers,
Robert

I agree something between 30 seconds to 2 minutes would be great for me.

I suggested 30s on another thread. Where on earth the 120 minutes came from is beyond me! Note the idea would be for the screen to light up again as soon as any setting was changed.

I would also like a standby function to save electricity, which I'd be happy to enable via the physical knob on the SHD if it's hard to do with the remote control.

The idea came from several messages earlier in this thread. Perhaps they meant 120 minutes of total inactivity and the SHD would go into standby, not just blank the screen but that's not what they said.

Personally I couldn't care less about actually shutting the SHD off or going into standby as it doesn't draw diddly squat for power.

The single and ONLY thing I care about with the SHD is the getting the damned screen to blank after xx seconds of no user activity on the remote or the front panel knob. I really hope the Devs don't try to bundle a bunch of changes into an upcoming firmware and therefore take a long time to get this out. Just the dimming alone would be a great improvement.

Cheers,
Robert
