Hi,
I have a 2x4HD and looking to get a Flex (which requires 96kHz FIR).  I've read the latency thread but also evaluated some other threads.  I don't have a miniDSP on my mains but once/if I put one on there I want it to be a Flex.

I'm looking at apply FIR's to my Left and Right channels from approx 300Hz to 15000Hz.  According to this article:  www.prosoundtraining.com/2016/05/20/fir-ward-thinking-part-5/

I'm looking at minimum 8ms which I'd be happy with.  Where I'd have problems is over 17ms.  That's where my AVR appears to "taps" (pun intended) out.

Depending upon which platform you use, you might have significant latency beyond that associated with the FIR filtering.  The Dirac capable miniDSP units have approx 25ms latency with nothing programmed at all.

Significant latency wouldn't be an issue in an audio-only system, but when you start integrating with video in HT systems, or similar, it can become a problem.

Right now I have the 2x4HD.  I get about 7ms without anything and about 16ms with PEQ and crossover.  It actually goes down a bit without the crossover.

this is according to REW with an acoustic timing reference but using loop back or some other mechanism, I’m sure it’s more accurate to what youre explaining.

my use-case is definitely video.  Otherwise, I’ll just use my PC.

I was hoping using linear phase at higher frequencies would allow a lower latency phase correction that my AVR could “delay” out.

For reference, unless they've altered the design in recent years, your 2x4HD has an inherent latency of 3ms.  (That's with nothing programmed and from analog in ---> analog out.)
I take it you've read through this thread???

I have it was helpful.  I was on my phone so I didn't follow the link.  I did notice that the Crossover adds more latency than the PEQ.  So it's more efficient delay-wise to add the "crossover" to the PEQ.  The killer is it can only go -16dB but I only use it on subs so they naturally fall off.

I'll still try the FIR and give it a shot
