TOPIC: PWR-ICE 125 makes short mutes when loud

PWR-ICE 125 makes short mutes when loud 7 months 1 week ago #33292

Hi

I've got two ICE-PWR 125 in my system, both feeded with the same signal thru digital input. When I'm going louder, one of those units makes short mutes on its second channel. I've tried different cables, different routing, but nothing helped. Does it mean I will have to send it for repair?

Short mutes would imply that unit is going into protection. How hard are you driving the system and how much DSP processing are you applying? In digital mode, you'd have limited headroom. You've got to be careful with the amount of DSP you're applying (E.g. large PEQ boost can easily create that issue). Maybe send us more info, it would help I think.

I have found that the problem goes with AES/EBU synchronisation. When I plug in every PWR-ICE unit directly to AES signal source, it works flawlessly. If I daisy Chain three units, it starts to make drops in audio when using it loud. My theory is that AES/EBU synchronization is convolved with audio data, when there is no audio or it is quiet, it's easy to synchronize for a reveiver, but if audio signal is loud, and AES/EBU level is lowered by daisy chaining it, it starts to getting drop-outs.

Ahh OK, I see. Most likely that it's the last device having drop outs? Daisy chaining 3 units in a row isn't too good of an idea for signal integrity. Best that you have some sort of digital distribution amplifier at the front if you have many units in row. We didn't envision the AES-EBU to be more than 2 to be honest (i.e. L&R) so never tested for 3 I'm afraid... :-(
