Hi all,

I have a serious problem with my OpenDRC, which I'm using nearly since a year together with miniDSP 4x10 HD. I'm running AcourateDRC on that hardware.
From time to time I experienced a certain touchiness when plugging-in the USB cable. When touching the housing the DSP crashed and the signal output was blocked.
By removing power and after rebooting the DSP was running fine again.
Last saturday I had a music hearing at home with good friends and four different set of speakers. As the room was new I had to measure the room response for all speakers, load the files and checked performance. By doing this I had to plug and unplug the USB interface cable several times, because I noticed connectivity problems when being synchronised with miniDSP at the same time from the same laptop.
At a certain moment the DSP crash happened again. After rebooting the connection to OpenDRC was re-established after the unit stays silent. Configurating the DSP via plug-in like loading and unloading of bin. files was possible. I could see the sigal on the input meter but there was no signal on the output meter at all. OpenDRC is connected to miniDSP only by Toslink, no physical wire. After several unsuccessful attempts to reboot the system I tried to reload the firmware.
I executed the steps like described in the user manual but couldn't finish the process. The verification didn't finished so that the rest button never got active.
Please see attached screenshot:

Has anyone made the same or similar experience? What was going wrong during firmware upgrade?
Has anyone an explanation why just the signal output is blocked?
Any idea is highly appreciated.
Best regards

Thomas

Hi all,

Just some information. After a lot of rebooting and synchronising I found out that conf. 1 is working. So it seems that there is no hardware defect.
As said operating the OpenDRC by means of the plug-in seems to work. But this is not true, it's indicated in the plug-in only. Bypassing the FIR in config. 2 -4 is bypassing always only the FIR of config. 1.
I need help.

Best regards

Thomas

PS: Devteam, shall I send back the device to you?

There was some sort of full reset firmware for the OpenDRC that was posted recently I seem to recall...

OK here's the post:

While that discussion is about the miniSHARC I'm pretty sure that's what I used to get myself out of a pickle with the openDRC.

@ Thomas,

No need to send the device back to us. :-) Let's see what's going on here with few things to try:
- You mention that you have 4x10 and OpenDRC. You might want to be careful as to how these are connected to the same PC. Could be done that by mistake you'll mess up the configuration? Happened to us before.
- If you're trying to load the latest OpenDRC firmware (v1.3 now), here are few things worth trying:
a) Make sure you do a restore to factory default to clear all memories
b) You're running the latest plug-in from user downloads? Make sure you've upgraded
c) John's suggestion would be next, but possible it isn't required here.

If none of the above works, please email us your configurations.

Hi Devteam,

Thanks for your support. You wrote in another thread:
"Did you insure that you're not trying to load a configuration file from a 48k miniSHARC configuration inside a miniSHARC 96kHz?"

How can I do it, i cannot find a button to switch between the sample rates of 48/96 kHz?

Best regards

Hi Thomas, there are two miniSHARC plugins, one runs at 48k, one at 96k.

Hi John,

Okay, this means it's only depending of the version of plug-in.

There's only one version of the plugin and firmware for the OpenDRC configuration. (Let's not confuse the issue with miniSHARC plugin versions.) :)

Thomas,

You need to perform a full reset of the device using the procedure John pointed to in post 12858. Except, use the latest OpenDRC firmware file for the second part of that upgrade process.

I believe that will get you back on the air.

Dave.

Hi Dave,

thanks. One last question: In order to perform a full reset on the device, do I have to open the case and press the reset button when applying power to the board?
It's not described in the OpenDRC manual but has been mentioned in several comments.

Besr regards

Normally you wouldn't have to open the case since you can run the utility from within the plug-in GUI. However, in your case, since the unit is not finishing the upgrade correctly maybe you should try that. Run the upgrade utility by itself (without the plugin open) and do the reset button power applied procedure.

Thomas,

What's the progress here? Keep us updated on what's going on. We suggested below some suggestions already:
1) Did you do the Factory default? That's from the plug-in.

Most likely based on what we're reading above, there was some confusion between plug-in/DSP firmware. So let's try to summarize:
- There are 2 plug-ins: miniSHARC 4x8 48k and miniSHARC 4x8 96k. These are 2 complete different software. They are NOT the same. Install only one plug-in to stop the confusion.
- Once you decide of the sample rate (48k or 96k), make sure that you're running the correct DSP firmware (.bin extension). It's easily done by a factory default of the unit.

Sounds good?

Hi Devteam,

Thanks for your clarification. I'm currently extremely busy and haven't had a chance to do any testing on my OpenDRC unit.
I'll keep you informed as soon as i have made progress.

Hi Devteam,

my OpenDRC is back on air again with all 4 configurations after several different trials.
The only procedure which worked was the firmware update from ENC_miniSHARC_Ver2.11 to Ver2.13.
This firmware version is provided by community member Dave in thread "Can't sync with miniSHARC? Upgrading Firmware".
I couldn't find this version in the miniDSP download area. The current OpenDRC plug-in contains Ver2.11.
Is Ver2.13 not an official one?

Thanks to all of you for your support, especially Dave.

Best regards
