I have 2 devices (4x10HD and OpenDRC-DI) and recently ordered OpenDRC-DA8.
I really like the flexibility to customize miniSHARK, but does not approach the level of DAC.

I would like to be able to output a digital signal of 4 AES/EBU with DSUB 25-pin connector. This will allow to connect devices such as professional Linx Aurora 8, Apogee Rosetta 800 and others.

Ideally, the digital input signal should be selected from SPDIF, AES/EBU and Toslink.

There are no plans to develop such a add board or new product?
This product can be called OpenDRC-DI8

External professional units like the Aurora 8 transform your combination into a VERY expensive solution. :) You'd be using those units just for DAC purposes?
You don't like the performance of the AK4440? In what aspect?

I've seen a number of DIY projects based on the WM8805 transceiver chip. That might be a good way to go for a more inexpensive solution.
Also, one of the users on here created a very nice miniSHARC setup with S/PDIF outputs a couple of years a ago. ( I can' t seem to find it right now.)

Yes, I want the best quality DAC on PCM1794 or CS4398.
At the local market, there are cheaper options for $ 1000

DA8 is beneficial, but even its characteristics are far from perfect.
My measurements showed a high level of distortion.

Just as a 2-channel DACs he loses the Matrix Mini-i (on AD1955)

But I like the flexibility miniSHARK and I want to leave it in the project.

My current system:

Can you post your OpenDRC-DA8 distortion measurements please?

Thx,

Dave.

In miniDAC8 Product datasheet THD+N = 0.006%
www.minidsp.com/images/documents/Product%20Brief-miniDAC8.pdf
My measurements showed almost the same figures.

In the DAC that I want to use THD+N = 0,0004 %

0.006% THD+N is a "high level of distortion"?? :):)

The difference between 0.0004% and 0.006% THD is not audible. There may be other measurable factors that might be audible, but that isn't one of them. :)

Cheers,

Dave.

Sorry for my english, but 0.006% many for modern ultra Hi-Fi DAC.

At the same Lynx Aurora dynamic range = 117 dB and THD+N = 0.00045%

miniDAC8 for your money (almost for free as part of OpenDRC-DA8) is a great solution, but not the best.

I want to get the best sound and use DAC on PCM1794.
So I just want to conclude AES signal from miniSHARK and use any professional DAC with balanced output.

Lynx Aurora 8 channel has RRP $2000 USD.

Yes, I know.

Now only need to bring the signal on it.

@ rsergio

Quite some feedback already from the miniDSP experts Mr John and Mr Dave! :-)
Unfortunately we don't have such configuration IO card, it's a good idea I guess for all digital + multichannel.. We did see a similar DIY board (I2S to multiple SPDIF), unfortunately not sure which thread it was like Dave.. :-)

Thank you.
I found a man who developed this IO board on chip AK4101.

Are there any features that need to pay attention?

Hi,
If you're going for the best performance specs in 8 channel converter, you should also consider the Mytek 8x 192.
It has DAC dynamic range = 123dB and THD+N = 0.0003% (-110dBFS) which is better than Lynx Aurora.
For fairly similar price, it has better features, better quality and lower jitter, etc. Also has two expansion card slots, so it could support both ADAT and USB options, for instance, whereas Aurora cannot.

I agree with you that output card you Photoshopped with 25 pin D-sub AES/EBU would be a very nice item for MiniDSP to consider launching.
Remember there are different Tascam and Yamaha format versions of that 25 pin D-Sub AES/EBU though, which have different wiring and different screw thread pitch - so they're not interchangeable, although you can wire a conversion cable if needed.
