I have a media PC on port 1 and am only getting 5.1 audio though its definitely set up to output 7.1 ....

also cannot get DIRAC LIVE to make any further calibrations . ERROR Cannot open recording device - UMIK1 is plugged in and active and set as default recording device ...

I am about to request a refund if these issues cannot be resloved

Do you have the pc set up to output bitstream or LPCM? As far as I know the NanoAVR can not process the codec for 7.1 as it's proprietary and needs to be decoded by your PC. If you set your pc to decode the audio first and send PCM data to your NanoAVR, it might work. Also, do you have the NanoAVR set to output 7.1 audio? Page 29 of the manual gives instruction on how to set 7.1 as the default output mode via the Channel Mode menu. Make sure you don't have 5.1 selected. You can also check Windows audio settings to be sure that you don't have it set up for 5.1 audio.

Have you tried rebooting your computer? Again, this is a Windows issue. Something within the system is conflicting with your USB and the DIRAC software can not access the microphone. Try unplugging all USB devices and then reboot with only the microphone hooked up.

thanks for your reply.

I have gone over every imaginable windows and JRIVER MC setting... Aas far as I can tell its set to output 7.1 PCM through HDMI to the NANO unit.... Its unfortunate that there is no way to monitor the INPUT signal of the NANO AVR DL.... as with the DIRAC PC version that has a "streaming" indicator when the signal is passing correctly and frankly was much much easier to setup and use than this unit...

I am willing to experiment with this unit further to try and resolve this issue and the UM!K 1 as well..

Another probelm just came up today -

We have a MOTOROLA/FIOS set top box and when we choose VIDEO ON DEMAND the video goes blank briefly - then comes back ( im assuming its reverting to a standard definition video ) but we have no audio after that point ... we must toggle HDMI source - then the audio comes back. We do not experience this issue when bypassing the NANO unit...

SOMEONE PLEASE tell me what is the default IP address of this unit... scanning my network with Angry IP scanner reveals everything on my network which is 40 + devices so its very difficult to tell which IP it is....

well the U MIK1 issue was this... Our Marantz AVR et all equipment for the media room is in an adjacent utility room ...All being controlled by RF remote ..
Obviously to get the UMIK1 into the room we had to use a USB extension ....This extension apparently did not allow the UMIK1 to recieve enough power / ie I could see that Windows recognized it but could not get enough signal strength to record a signal ...
So Im now using my laptop as the setup go between... UMIK1 is now working fine and proceeding into calibration w no errors..... Im hoping this also solves the "no 7.1 " only 5.1 sound from the PC through the NANO DL.... progress after a difficult first experience......

jrauhauser,

Not enough power through a very long audio cable sounds about right to us. That's a common theme knowing USB 2.0 is max 5m, yet some manufacturers are selling cheap cables much longer.. :-( Try to stick to a short cable until you find maybe an active cable?

As for the no 7.1, not sure what it could be. Make sure that inside the nanoAVR utlity (small app used for reset, control of preset), you have the HDMI mode on 7.1. It will force the setup. Possible that you initiated the configuration with a 5.1 DVD in the train of your bluray player?
Remember how HDMI works, it's a chain so ultimately, it's the source (i.e. whatever HDMI source you have) that will control all devices downstream. The nanoAVR is only reading whatever content is played to him.

Hoping this clarifies.

The long USB cable was the culprit.... New calibration using the supplied cable yielded a superb calibration ( though we still need a long cable solution as the media PC / Marantz avr are in an adjacent room) and FIOS is now is 7.1 ..
Some of the files from our Media server may indeed be 5.1 , however if I set the NANO utility to 7.1 output can i not expect all sources to be output in 7.1 from the NANO ? The new calibration brought all the surround sound channel levels up ...
We still have 1 probelm which is the NANO is locking up if we toggle surround modes too quickly on the MARANTZ avr...
Also today I got a call from the client that when he turned on his system today the NANO was again locked up...

Is there any way to power cycle the unit other than the power cord being unplugged???

You could look into an active USB repeater, I think a search here should turn something up.

"Some of the files from our Media server may indeed be 5.1 , however if I set the NANO utility to 7.1 output can i not expect all sources to be output in 7.1 from the NANO ?"

Not quite sure what you mean. If you set channel mode to 7.1, the AVR will think it's getting 7.1. However, if fed with 5.1 material, the rear surround channels just won't have any audio (the nanoAVR DL doesn't upmix from 5.1 to 7.1).

@ rts100x5,

- Glad to hear that you figured out the issue with the USB cable! That sounds about right, you're not supposed to run USB 2.0 on further than 5m I'm afraid.

- Other issues. Did you already start a tech support ticket on this? I see that you have opened multiple forum post here. Note that forum isn't exactly a way for us to track an issue. I would be a LOT more efficient if you were to start one tech support ticket so our team can follow up and help. miniDSP.desk.com (accessible from Support - > Contact us) is the path to open a ticket.
There could be a way for us to add a command for reset but I think that we first need to understand what is the cause here. This product has been in the market for 1.5 years now, so not exactly a newbie.. Understanding what's different on your install would be key step (e.g. logs would help)
