The PC I used to control the 2x4 HD just died and I need to set up a new PC. I think I saw somewhere its not as simple as installing the 2x4 HD Console but also reinstall the firmware? So my question is do I just treat this as a 1st time installation or is there a simpler way.

If you've already installed the firmware (and it's the latest or at least the min required for DC), shouldn't need to reinstall it.  Just install DC on your new computer.  That said, it's not all that much time or difficulty to just treat it as a fresh install.
