Hello there.

I'm currently planning on making a 2 way speaker with my Pioneer ODR 7"s and tweeters and some questions araises when planning this. I was refered to the minidsp by a guy on the local caraudioforum here in Norway.
At the moment I havent read all the documentation on the DSP.

The questions I have:

Realtime adjusting of EQ, Slopes and crossover frequencies. Is this possible?
Can you adjust left and right EQ? If so, what kind of frequencies can I expect to be possible to adjust?
I see that there is a mixing addon for the minidsp with 31 band EQ, Does this also have left and right channel like most of the Pioneer DSPs have (p90,p99, rsp90 and etc)
Are there any limitations on the crossover frequencies like the dsps from Pioneer/Alpine have
40/50/63/80/100/120 and etc?
When using the minidsp, does it cut all the frequencies below 20hz and anything above 20khz. (Yes yes i do know that humans cant hear anything below or over that but i'm curious)
Last question: Can the electronic equipment inside the dsp be compared to more expensive dsps like hypex's dsps with internal amp, alpines pxah701 or pioneers odr dsps?

As you might have figured im more the type of guy which goes for caraudio setups but the minidsp have made my curiousity arise. If it works as well as im hoping for i might even end up using it in the car considering the slopes looks rather "freely" setup compared to other caraudio related dsps.

Hope to hear from you

Tor "Dovregubben" Martin

EDIT: Forgot to ask. Which Minidsp would you recomend me using for this setup? Currentlly i'm planning on using it together with my computer or even cd player, im not quite shure. The amps going to be used on it is a Rotel RA-02 (RA-04 maybe, cannot remember as im at work).

Hello Martin,

In answer to your questions, a lot of that information can actually be found once you read the user manual and basic product concept... So i'd recommend that you have a look. As a quick answer in the mean time:

Realtime adjusting of EQ, Slopes and crossover frequencies. Is this possible?

Yes, see the plug-in video for more info.

Can you adjust left and right EQ? If so, what kind of frequencies can I expect to be possible to adjust?

You can adjust from 10Hz to 20kHz in 1Hz increments. Any values can be selected

I see that there is a mixing addon for the minidsp with 31 band EQ, Does this also have left and right channel like most of the Pioneer DSPs have (p90,p99, rsp90 and etc)

yes it does.

Are there any limitations on the crossover frequencies like the dsps from Pioneer/Alpine have
40/50/63/80/100/120 and etc?

nope. Have a look at the video for more info.

When using the minidsp, does it cut all the frequencies below 20hz and anything above 20khz. (Yes yes i do know that humans cant hear anything below or over that but i'm curious)

Above 20kHz, yes since you want to remove that section since we're past Nyquist. Below 20Hz no, since board rolls off at around 5Hz or so

Last question: Can the electronic equipment inside the dsp be compared to more expensive dsps like hypex's dsps with internal amp, alpines pxah701 or pioneers odr dsps?

Have a look at the specs and you'd be the judge but you'll notice that Hypex does provide more or less the same features (minus a couple of things... :-)

For your setup, have a look maybe at a 2way configuration: miniDSP + 2way Advanced will be plenty of fun.

Hope this helps and please read more on the forum/manual for more info

Frequencies below 20Hz can be felt not heard per se. So going below 20Hz is very important to video fans and organ masters (often have a 16Hz "stop."). I personally can do without everything below 16Hz and so I have the miniDSP set to roll off at 48db/octave below 18Hz.
