I currently use a Behringer BFG with a laptop to provide a PEQ function for my Danley DTS-10 subwoofer. I'd like to use something a little more user friendly and provide at least this capability and more. What does the miniDSP offer for me? Which one would I need?

Thank you,
Don

Perhaps my article will help: www.hifizine.com/2010/09/subwoofer-equal...ith-the-minidsp-2x4/

As for "which one" - could you be more specific as to what you are asking about there?

I would get the miniDSP because it does everything one needs to equalize a sub. I use it for this with my two subs, and my L/C/R for both crossovers and equalization.
I don't think there is anything I've seen that surpasses the miniDSP for equalization.

Wow John, that is a fantastic article! Thank you so much for taking the time to do that for the community. Sorry I was not clear, "which one" meant which REV of the unit, and can I get away with the DSP without the case as it will be hidden? Also which plug ins are suitable for my purpose?

Thank you again!

Don

Edit: Your article have answered most of my questions, except which REV ... I'm assuming it's REV A.

Thanks for that, I was hoping to hear something like that. So, this unit handles room correction with both frequency and time domains, such as an antimode?

Thanks,
Don

Hi, you're welcome, yes, I used Rev A. If you get the bare board it has a jumper now to switch input sensitivity. I'm not sure about the 2x4, my guess is that you could open it up to switch but devteam would have to confirm that.

The two-way PEQ plugin would probably be the best fit.

Oh, I think you may need the advanced version if you wanted to import filters from REW. I haven't had a lot of time to play with that part yet.

Yeah, I think you're correct about the 2x4, there appears to be a jumper on it to switch from A to B. Also, I got the 2way PEQ 21 plug-in as suggested by your guide? Should I get the Advanced also?

Thanks for all the help,
Don

Don,

miniDSP 2x4 (balanced or unbalanced) is essentially a miniDSP kit (balanced or unbalanced) inside a box. (hence the miniDSP in a box... :-) So indeed, the 2x4 have an internal jumper for modifying a unit from revA to revB.

As already suggested by John, the Advanced version is what you would need to allow REW biquad programming.

Hoping this info helps,

Aw crap, I ordered the right unit but the wrong plug in, 2way PEQ 21 plug-in as suggested by the guide. Would that not work for me? I don't even know what biquad programming is lol ...although if that's what I need, I sure I could learn it. If the advanced plug in is indeed what I need, could you tell me which specifically and would I be able to "exchange" the plug in I purchased for the correct one? I have not received the unit or plug in yet.

Remember, I'm using this unit to serve as a PEQ for a single subwoofer. If I should be utilizing it in some additional way to better allow my subwoofer intergration within my system, please advise.

Thanks for all the help,
Don

I don't think there was an Advanced 2.1 plugin when I wrote that article... however the regular plugin will work fine, to use the advanced plugin effectively you would need to work out a "workflow" involving both REW and the miniDSP plugin. I'd be inclined to start with the regular one, to be honest (that's what I still use).
