I am new at this and have a question:
I have MAC Studio PC and Active Speakers from Nubert Pro X4000. Now I want connect the speakers to MiniDSP Flex. On which Outputs / Inputs i have to set up the speakers and MiniDSP? Or do I need an external amplifier?

If you bought an analogue Flex you'd use the Aux inputs, or you could buy a digital Flex and then you'd have a choice of SPDIF coaxial and Toslink inputs to use.

A key reason to choose the analogue Flex would be if you ever intend to use a subwoofer as well. If you're certain you won't then I'd probably go for the digital option to avoid unnecessary A/D and D/A steps (assuming your speakers have a digital internal crossover?)

You don't need an additional amplifier.

I connected MiniDSP Flex -> Digital Out 1&2 to -> Speaker Toslink In.
In MiniDSP Device Manager I selected Toslink Input and can see RMS-Meter values. But no sound from speaker where I also selected Toslink(Opt). What I am doing wrong? On my MAC I selected miniDSP Flex as output device.

Which Flex model do you have? My guess is you're trying to use a digital input on an analogue Flex model. Only the digital Flex has a digital output, which is what you'd need to connect to a digital input on your speakers.

If you have a digital Flex then things to check include:
  1. Are you definitely using the digital output 1+2 Toslink output and not the input?
  2. Is your signal routing definitely sending the left and right signals to outputs 1 and 2?
  3. Do you have the correct input selected on you Flex? (USB I think if you're using your computer as a source.)
  4. Can your speakers accept the 96 kHz sample rate signal that your Flex will be outputting?
  5. Have you got the right input selected on your speakers?
  6. You might also like to try using the a coaxial SPDIF connection instead just in case it behaves differently.

Looks like you've covered my suggestions 1-3, how about 4-6?

Ich tried optical, optical2, coax1, coax2

Your earlier photo showed the Toslink cable in the Optical 1 input on your speaker but your last image has Optical 2 selected?

My only other thought is just to make sure that the mniDSP volume setting isn't simply too low.

Strange.... This morning I disconnected all devices and connected again, switched off MiniDSP and on again. Sound is working.... Maybe it could be also a problem with MAC software. Yesterday a new Beta was released and I updated my Mac. Reason unknown... But it's working until now. Now I can start with calibration..

Many thanks for your help!
