Hi, I have a dedicated music 2.1 system which has a Denon DVD-2910 player, an Onix SP3 integrated tube amplifier, 2 Onix ref 1 bookshelf speakers and an HSU VTF2 mkI sub-woofer. As of now, the only way I can connect this setup properly is using the high level speaker crossover in the sub which actually sucks because it doesnt have any kind of a high pass filter.

So...

With the minidsp, could I set up some kind of a 2.1 crossover that sends 20hz-43hz to my sub, then send 43hz-20k to my bookshelves? The reason id wanna use this crossover is thats the +/-3db point for my bookshelves.

If the minidsp can do this, how hard would it be to configure? Would I need a degree to make it work?

The issue you will have is that you will not be able to use the volume control on the SP3. So you will need to either use the digital volume with a 10k linear pot, or put a stereo log attenuator in front of the miniDSP. (Or use a separate standalone preamp.) Other than that, it isn't difficult, but here is my article that may help: www.hifizine.com/2010/09/subwoofer-equal...ith-the-minidsp-2x4/

Hello,

Indeed you could use 1xminiDSP along with 1 x 2.1 plug-in. It would do the trick.
No need for any degree, it's really simple to use and the plug-in would actually come pre-configured in a similar configuration (2 x sat + 1 x sub) as what you're trying to do.

Have a look online for some similar applications. I think that there is a project described in this forum (showcase section) that's similar.

Hope this helps.

Ill read your writeup tonight, if the DVD player (source) has its own volume control, will that change things? Im looking at an Oppo player and from what I understand, they have built in volume?

Sure, if your source has volume control, that will make it easy.
