Hello,

at first my gratulation to this impressive product!

I'm using two analog crossovers at the moment, One 3-way stereo for L+R and one sub xover. I'm not happy with this configuration because of bad bass management.
I plan to use two minidsp with 4-way peq. My question: can I use a Y-adapter for the low outputs for the sub or must I use the sub xover to sum the low outputs (but I didn't want to use this crap anymore) or what would you suggest?
Many thanks!

regards Wilhelm

I use my miniDSPs to crossover from the mids to the tweeters but use the bass management of the processor for the crossover from sub to midwoofer. I do route the bass mono signal to a miniDSP channel for equalization. I have the high pass and low pass bypassed for that channel and it outputs two summed signals to the two subwoofer amps. This allows me to have two subs that can be equalized separately. I am completely satisfied with this and since sub frequencies don't have much directional information the mono sub signal does not distract me.

I have a Sony TA-E2000 and a Sony SDP-90 (Dolby Digital) which can bypass the TA-E2000 for Stereo. I can't use the mono sub out of the two preamps because they are different in phase! At the moment I must always change phase when playing stereo or 5.1 over the SDP-90. I only have one sub (Visaton TL-Sub). So my idea is to make the bass management after the two preamps. I tested this with a software crossover and it works very well. Here I can summ the both outs for the sub. The problem with the software xover was the big lag (~300ms) so you hear most voices double (front - center). Minidsp has around 1,5ms lag what is not noticeable. Around 20ms I can handle with the Decoder. With two minidsp I would make Sub-Bass-Mid-High. I only don't know how I can summ the both Sub-out without the old sub xover (only 12db).

Wilhelm,

Glad to hear that you're impressed by our platforms. :-)
You can indeed mix the two signals with a resistive mixer. Have a look online for some template schematics.

Hope this info helps,

Mine is just 3 way. I use the pre/pro lfe output and use a y adapter to attach to a minidsp so that I can process each of the two sub seperately. I use the pre/pros bass management and crossover between sub and mid-woofers but still equalize them with the miniDSP. I have two miniDSPs, one for the crossover between mid-woofers and tweeters and one for center and sub. It all works wonderfully. My DIY sub, that I finished the day before yesterday, is currently mated with an ancient NHT1259 in a 3cf enclosure. The miniDSP lets me apply a high pass filter of 16Hz to the new one and 40Hz for the NHT.
