is it posible to have a hardware switch to toggle between the analog input of miniDSP and digital input of miniDIGI?

this question arose, while doing setup in the Stereo-2way PEQ plugin.

In the plugin, there's a setting to choose between I2S or analog input of miniDSP.
but this is software based...

My use would be best if it is possible to use the combo as both an analog and digital preamp.

Any chance to do so?

Hello,

Yes, you can indeed toggle from Analog to Digital in hardware by placing a toggle switch at the correct location on the miniDIGI. We've just updated the miniDIGI manual to reflect that setup. It will be updated shortly on the website.

In the mean time, see attached pdf for more info.

As I understand the attached "I2S_Toggling.pdf", it is important to

* use a switch which does "brake-before-make", be it a mechanical or CMOS type.

Using a switch which behaves otherwise will connect signal paths for a short moment when performing the switching. shortcircuit...
This can do harm to device.

* the power off advice is OK from your perspective.
I think, if the switch is OK (like description above), one can switch while device is powered on.
It is IMHO the same as pulling an SPDIF Cable and plugin it in again.
The miniDIGI will sync again after switching on the new I2S stream.

* universal preamp application
this is a great feature, one can build a full fledged preamp with all kind of analog and digital gear as sources.

* future
;-) So, when will the miniHDMI In/Out Board be ready? ;-)

thanks.

Yes indeed, "brake-before-make" is the way to go to prevent any shorts and allow switching from one source to the other with ease.

miniHDMI is a good one and I guess the first time we hear that one.. :-)
Not an easy one though because those run at a high freq and there are just a whole lot of licensing fees, NDA that need to be taken into account. For that reason, most probably too hard to be implemented in a short and low cost framework like miniDSP....

But keep the ideas coming, we can always see what other boards can be built...
