TOPIC: MiniDSP 2x4 HD Power Supply

MiniDSP 2x4 HD Power Supply 7 months 1 hour ago #45335

Hi, does anyone know what the minimum power supply voltage is for the MiniDSP 2x4 HD. I know the nominal is 12V but I have noticed that the regulator at the bottom and the main 1000uF power supply capacitor run a little too warm for my liking. I am building a dsp + amplifier where reliability is very important and I want to maximise the reliability of the MiniDSP 2x4 HD s much as possible.

I would like to know what is the miniDSP 2x4 HD minimum supply voltage.
What the impact is from running the miniDSP 2x4 HD from a lower supply voltage.
What is the make and model of the 1000uF power supply capacitor is it 105 degree rated etc, how many hours, who manufacturers it etc.

@mcspero

12V is required. It needs to be regulated as it's better for the DC-DC section (specific boot up sequence).

Sorry, but what voltage is best for miniSharc? 12, 9, 5?

@Kolos

The manual is usually a great place to start.. :-)

There isn't any "BEST" voltage. It's a DC-DC. It will convert to correct voltage from 5~24VDC in.

Hi. What is providing the +/- 8VDC for the three OPs? (Actually I mesured like +8V and -9V!!). I also noticed that the three Dual-Ops NJM2068 have not common DC rails. I find it just a bit interesting. (I started to dig into this after having encountered distortions in the analogue input due to headroom limits and I THOUGHT that I did not hit the "roof" and THOUGHT that it was something wrong with the OP in the analogue input.)
cheers,
