Do users who have the 4x10HD have the option to migrate to the Flex 8? Is there a LX521.4 DSP file for the Flex 8?

Of course.  A number of users have already done this.

However, I don't believe I'm misunderstanding "vred"s issue.  He alluded/commented that he doesn't believe the DAC's in the Flex can compete with "high end dacs costing much more." He's one of the people that can hear the difference in components.  :)
It's puzzling though, he seems to be okay with using a 4x10HD unit with cheaper DAC's.
And, he seems to have a high-end DAC between his digital source and the 4x10HD (analog) inputs.
It's difficult to make sense of.

DAC's are one of the pesky audio system components that get inside the audiophile brain and just bounce around in there endlessly.

Yes maybe he enjoys his existing DACs.

but Like Jan Didden; says;

I’d buy a Flex 8 type product with an analog input.

sometimes I just want a quick way of getting music off something into my stereo. Or applying some EQ separate from my miniDSP settings. Analog out is the most reliable output.

From a laptop I’ve found the Flex 8’s USB input is a little flaky…

how do I get music off a phone/tablet into my Flex 8 enabled stereo? Has anyone successfully used a Lightning or USB-C to USB-B cable?

Or turntable?

Maybe in the future we can think of a completely different version in a much bigger format to fit all the wish list.. :-)

Yes! If you build it I will e the first to buy:

Analog In
Balanced (XLR outputs)
Airplay 2

Just like I did with:

The Flex 8 is what it is.
You guys are asking for a different product.  Fine and dandy, but that's not the topic of this area of the support forum.

I took the advice I received yesterday and ran my computer directly to the minidsp thru spdif (btw I had done this when I first got the unit)  And it sounds pretty good. But it still presents problems as I have a cd transport (no problem can use optical) but as I am one of those old idiot audiophiles I still run a turntable. So again somehow I would need to convert it to digital. Also has anyone got an opinion on the sq of the flex compared to the 4x10(go ahead I'm ready)

Ah, a turntable.  You neglected to mention that.  :)
Obviously that does change the scheme.

Oh yes, a turntable is very much something I had in mind originally when saying there are absolutely are use-cases where a Flex 8 equivalent with an analogue input would be a welcome addition to the the product line. I use the analogue inputs on my SHD for movies for what it's worth, being fed by an analogue output from my Blu Ray player (as part of a 2.1 downmix).

You'd originally described an all-digital system which was why I replied as I did, as I struggle with how additional D/A, attenuation and A/D steps are likely to improve on the original digital recording data.

Well unfortunately it seems the needs of what I would guess is a significant group of users was not seriously considered. I know that almost all the LX521 speaker buyers were buying this unit.
I agree it doesn't seem to make sense to use this with a separate dac and preamp, but when you consider all the analog components involved in 8 separate crossovers the signal must travel through the tradeoff makes more sense.
Also another problem I am having, I cannot get the ir volume control to work. It says it learns the codes on multiple remotes I've tried, but nothing works except the mute on one. The front panel lights flicker weakly but nothing happens. Isn't this hobby fun?

I don't really follow. For digital sources my point would be why compromise the original digital recording data at all?

You have your hardware and can experiment to make up your own mind, and ultimately we're just talking about a hobby so absolutely do what overall gives you most enjoyment . In your position I would personally seriously explore whether connecting your digital sources direct to your 4x10 HD resulted in any detriment to your enjoyment, because if it didn't you could make yourself some money by selling your DAC. Then keep your pre-amp just to use for vinyl playback.

Another perfectly valid reason to keep things as they are is if you prefer the user experience of using your current pre-amp for source selection and volume adjustment rather than using your miniDSP for this.

It is not much of an option If the volume control won't work.

What do you mean?

Also how would I connect my preamp for the turntable into a dsp with no analog inputs? Same problem.
Any ideas on why the ir remote volume will not work? Thanks

You wouldn't. Possibly you missed that I described what you could do with your current 4x10 HD?
