Ok here is what I want to be able to do... please tell me the CHEAPEST and EASIEST way to do it using MiniDSP products.

1st of all I have a custom set of speakers, that I am using a 2x4 to equalize to my liking.
I want to be able to take these speakers to other locations, and to have them sound as good as possible regardless of the room they are placed in.

So, what I need is a way to be able to auto-correct a new room on the fly, and then add my speaker tuning curve back in on top of the room correction.
What can I use to correct the room, and ADD the speaker EQ curve together in the 2x4 ??

Thanks for any help!!

James

The simple way to do that would I think be to use the output PEQs for the speakers, and the input PEQs for the room. Would that work in your case?

John's is indeed right. That's how input vs output PEQ banks would typically be used on the miniDSP platforms.

Ok... I guess I need to break out my miniDSP's and play with them a little more....
I have used the 2x4 in the past, and the 31-band EQ app.

Does the 31-band EQ app also have IN and OUT EQ's ??
If they do, I must have missed it before.
I'll be breaking them out again tonight :)

I also have a 2x8, but only plugged it in once. Never really played with it. I wish there were a 31-band EQ app for the 2x8 :(

Well.......

From what I am looking at on the apps page of the website... NONE of the dsp's will run a 31-in EQ and a 31-out EQ.
So... it looks like the cheapest and easiest thing to do is to run (2) 2x4's in series? The 1st one to flatten the room and then a 2nd to EQ the speakers correctly, which would be permanent, and fixed.

Not a very streamlined way of doing it, and keeping full control of all frequencies.

OK, with the graphic EQ, they are only on the inputs.

I'd encourage you to learn how to use the parametric EQ though.

Yeah, you are probably right... then I could use 1 DSP and be done with it.

Thanks man !!!

James,
It seems to me that my comment might break one of your rules (inexpensive), but that is a relative term, so what I would recommend is getting the Dirac system as well as your miniDSP. This way you can tune your system to have the same sound in any room. It would be repeatable and measured making it far easier to dial in the sound characteristics that you want. The Dirac would replace the 31 band EQ you're proposing.

I appreciate the advice. But $900 for the Dirac is just not practical for what I'm trying to do. If they could get it down to $300-400 if might be an option. For a MiniDSP and a RTA in a box, $900 seems pretty steep.

I have the PartsExpress RTA/mIc which I use now. It works, but something a little more integrated would be nice.
