@ Huib,

It's a good suggestion, we'll see in the future if we can implement it ... (i.e. most important if we have enough GPIO which I don't believe we do). Will have to check.. Most likely a workaround is possible. :-)

Small update:

The MiniSharc is connected via I2S to the DAC. The current firmware of the DAC kit I use labels the I2S input as USB. That DAC kit also has 4 other inputs. The firmware also allows some tweaking of the ESS 9016 DAC chip setting. In a not to distant future I'll update the firmware to support an input selection before the data goes into the MiniSharc, new PCB to develop, rewrite some parts of the firmware.

Inching forward, all connecters mounted on the backpanels. One is not yet mounted, stays empty for the moment.

On top the amplifier and in the bottom case the MiniSharc + 8 ch DAC

Although I don't need it right away I wanted to add some source/input selection ability to my project. Ik could have used the input board of MiniDSP but as it is a closed design it would be a bit clumpsy to integrate it with my microcontroller as the only option would be to use the IR interface. Also de MiniDSP products dictates the layout on the backpanel of the cabinet. So I'll design something myself. Actually I took an existing design, strip of some parts and layout the PCB to be piggy backed on the MiniSharc PCB. An SRC4392 will be used as central part. Still to decide on many things. But here a first stab at PCB layout, but far far from final!

Looks neat. The SRC4392 is a great part for both source selection and SRC! :-) Do remember that you'll need a bit of code to control the part..

Keep up with the good work! :-)

Thanks.

Code: no worries there is a microcontroller in the system that will do switch the inputs and will set the I2S port that outputs to the MiniSharc.

Question1: could you give me (and document in the manual) the exact locations of the mountingholes in the MiniSharc PCB? The board itself is 75x75mm but what are te exact locations op the mounting holes centres?

Question2: Is this measurent okay for the position of connector J2 (See attachment) ?

Got myself a programmer to flash some updated firmware into the microcontroller.

Mostly some changes to the UI (compare to the video some posts before) and some small parts changed to make the UI changes easier to implement.

Render in Sketchup from the Eagle design (EagleUp tool)

JP1&2 are for connecting to the MiniSharc and to interface to the DAC. JP3 is for future use (ADC or USB) and connects to the other I2S port of the SRC4392.

Did some provisional wiring on the 6ch amp to be able to power it up. No smoke, no sparks, the amp powered up as expected. Connected a speaker for a quick test.

So this is the whole chain in action for the first time: MiniSharc, ESS 9016 8CH DAC and Hypex UcD amps. No hum, no hiss, no groundloop issues or pick up of RF when I used my mobile phone to test.

Unforeseen things kept me from working on this project. Minisharc has been in use fore several month now and drives a 2-way + sub but the whole minisharc build started to drive a different speaker. That speaker build had some progression as a professional painter sprayed painted and buffed the cabinets.

Always enjoying your post @ hsmeets! :-) This is a beautiful beast you've got here.. piano finish in grey is a great choice I think.. It gives a great feeling..
