As an alternative to IR remote control, it is possible to wire an arduino to control the miniDSP 2x4HD.

When the TSOP IR receiver receives a 38kHz IR pulse, it drives the output pin low. From the TSOP datasheet:

The IR receiver has an output pin next to the usb port and a ground pin in the middle:

Using a Saleae logic capture, it is seen that the output is driven low when using the miniDSP IR remote handpiece using an NEC protocol:

Desoldering the TSOP IR reciever, a header can be inserted in place - only 2 pins need to be used - signal and ground. An arduino or other microprocessor can send an NEC protocol message to the miniDSP driving the signal pin low instead of the IR remote LED being on:

IMPORTANT: please note that the miniDSP 2x4HD logic level is 3V3. If you are using an arduino with a5V output level, you will need to bring it down to 3V3 with a level shifter or resistor divider.

Hi
I'm curious to know if you made this work?
I have had the idea of using an Arduino to make an IR repeater, in order to control a miniDSP, "sniff" the command, and update a display accordingly. By bypassing the repeating IRdiode and the MiniDSP IRreceiver, it would in theory make this work more stable.

Mikkel

Hi,

Any update? this would be really interesting for volume control!

Greetz,
Chris
