Hi guys,
Why has Dirac applied exactly the same delay to both speakers? I mean why bother? What’s the point of exactly the same delay to both?

Also, what is the second impulse I'm seeing on the graph? Is it an early reflection or is one impulse the tweeter and the other woofer? And if it is the latter, why hasn't Dirac attempted any sort of alignment?

Thanks

Imagine the common delay is the inherent delay from the FIR filtering that Dirac is applying.

A bit difficult to say what the second peak is without understanding your measurement setup. I assume this is an ungated measurement from the listening position? If so a reflection is not a bad guess.

It might be worth taking some gated / near field measurements of the speakers themselves. I always like to do this before applying Dirac or taking measurements from the listening position so I can get a feel for what I am dealing with prior to correction.

Hi,
Yes taken from listening position. I’m using a ddrc24 connected to a stereo integrated amp. The speaker level output goes to two way speakers and also feeds a signal to an active sub.

I see a similar effect of I run Dirac and have always assumed as above that it's the inherent/unavoidable delay caused by the filters applied. It has no benefit.

This is distinct from the applied time delay offset between the left and right channels that you can see in the SHD Plugin.

Is there any way to see if Dirac as adjusted tweeter and woofer to be better aligned if required?

Also wrt the reflection, the time delay suggested it was travelling an extra 30-40cm before reaching the mic. The only thing that could be is the rear wall my sofa is up against. Can’t move it but put a couple of cushions on the back of the sofa behind my head and peak of the reflection significantly reduced!

To see any possible improvement in the impulse response within Dirac Live you need to zoom in a lot, so you can see the shape of the initial arrival. I prefer to look at this sort of thing by making measurements with REW rather than DL and it gives you much more control and information.

Ultimately the assessment that really counts is whether you think it sounds better or not.

Well that’s an easy one. There is an improvement.

I’ve experimented with approaches a bit not necessarily following the exact rules and I’ll no doubt keep playing and experimenting when I have time but for now it’s fair to say that:
Vocals are more coherent.
It’s Easier to identify where singers are standing or instruments are being played. It’s easier to pick up subtle backing vocals. The soundstage has been raised a little higher (not as high as I’d like to push it but still an improvement).
