Is it possible to get the same or pretty close to same results to dirac live, only using the Minidsp 2x4?. Not talking about the 2x4HD with the live upgrade plugin... I'm asking, because I am really considering the Dirac live 88b I believe is the one I've been looking at, but if I can buy 2 minidsp 2x4 and add my own correction filters and delay to each speaker the same as Dirac live does. Is it worth it? Thanks

In principle you could get very god results using REW but it it inifitnly more simple with DIRAC!

I would only use the 2x4 for subwoofer management (not very high fidelity at full range). How many speakers do you have since you need two 2x4?

Have you read about or watched any videos on what corrections Dirac Live performs? It does way more than just driver delay and EQ filter corrections.

I have 11 speakers, but was only thinking of doing the bottom 7...... I have watched some videos on Dirac live, and maybe I'm missing something, but it seems as though the only thing it does differently is that it basically has an auto feature, in a sense. I want to buy Dirac live, but I don't want to spend the money on it, if I can get similar results for much less.

How many speakers.... I have an open output on one of my Minidsp hd, that I could use for one speaker, and then I could get 3 minidsp for under 300 dollars for the other 6

Here is a good video that explains Dirac:

I have watched this video, it explains a lot. However I just stumbled across a comparison between Rew, and Dirac live. From what I gathered was the that dirac live uses fir pulse response to help measure, and Rew is done manually. So I guess my question should have been... REW or Dirac live? Assuming one knows how to use Rew.. I said minidsp 2x4 or dirac live, meaning the 2x4 would be used to add the filters from Rew after running sweeps, and getting the best average response per speaker. So I guess the question now is, is using Rew and a 2x4 with my own sweeps and added filters going to be comparable to dirac live? Thanks for any input.

I think your confused about a few things. FIR is not how Dirac measures. It is a type of filter that Dirac uses, along with IIR, in order to correct amplitude/phase/time domain. It does more then just correcting frequency response like can be done with REW and conventional IIR EQ filters. There are many videos and articles that explain this.

I think the miniDSP shark kit has the processing power to handle FIR filters that you calculate using REW but suspect it’s mega complex and that Dirac probably does some cleverer stuff than just applying either IIR or FIR filters. Probably tries to get the best balance between the two. I’m guessing but it’s what I understand from my limited knowledge.

Dirac Live and REW does not cover the same panel of functionalities.
Dirac's goal is to automatically (quasi) measure and correct your system whereas REW is a tool to make measurements and analysis of audio systems. REW provides a means to calculate automatically correction filters, but in the amplitude domain only. Using REW + other pices of software you can go further, but you need to know what you do.

Dirac Live corrects amplitude/phase/time domains using mixed IIR/FIR filters. It means that it will improve (try to) amplitude response, time response and phase response of the system. This is basically what is qualified asl a DRC (Digital Room Correction) module.
REW, by correcting amplitude only, has nothing to compare with a DRC module. It's only and just amplitude correction, that's all. Time and phase are not taken into account by REW (unless you know what to do and use other pieces of software).

REW must be considered as an absolutely wonderful and powerfull audio measurement and analysis software, not as an audio correction software.
