Hi,

Will either the DDRC 2x4HD (or SHD series) be getting the new Dirac Live Bass Control module? I would be very interested in this, even if it is a separate purchase from Dirac

Yes, also very keen to hear if DLBC will be possible on the SHD

This question has been asked in the Software forum as well, and has been sitting unanswered for weeks. Crickets.

Mods, we would appreciate a response, even if it's "we just don't know yet". At this point, we know you've seen the questions and have chosen not to answer. Thanks.

Ditto.

Obviously lots of people are after this, and understand Dirac now consider it a fundamental part of the software - how about it Minidsp?

Actually, reflecting on this, I don't think it will work with the SHD. There are only two output channels from Dirac available on the SHD. Yes, they can be assigned and mixed across the 4 outputs but, as I understand DLBC, it will need all eq'd channels to be separate and independent from one another.

It would need to be implemented differently but this doesn't necessarily mean that SHD doesn't have the capability to do so.

Note that the 2x4 HD has the ability to apply an FIR filter on each of it's 4 outputs but this is then lost when 'upgraded' to the DDRC-24, with the DL filters effectively taking their place. I guess the only question is whether it takes the hardware capability associated with one or two of the FIR filter blocks to apply a DL filter? If it's one then DLBC shouldn't pose a problem.

Hmmmm. Not sure.

I don't think I was clear in my previous post. If you have say a 2 channel stereo setup with a sub then the SHD can only 'drive' this with the two Dirac channels it has. In my case they are assigned: Dirac 1 to the Left, Dirac 2 to the Right and both to the Sub. The sub is simply duplicating the other channels - albeit possibly with some crossover filtering etc.

For DLBC to measure this set up properly (i.e. before any filters are calculated) it needs to be able to send separate discrete signals to each channel in your system (i.e. in my example there are 3) in order to measure how they behave and, critically, interact. With only two source channels to work with it can't do this i.e. there is no discrete sub channel.

I've only just got my SHD but I can't help but feel a revised 3 or 4 channel one is in the wings - bugger!

Sorry, I've just re-read your post and I think you are actually way ahead of me here!

Apologies, it sounded like I was patronising you - my mistake!

I'm still getting my head around how this works!

Actually I think you do have a point :) . When I make separate measurements of my subwoofer and main speakers I need to make changes to the signal routing between measurements to be able to do so. This is not something that the standard Dirac Live software would be able to do, which as you said is just to be able to send left and right channel signals to the SHD. So whilst all of the technical capability may be there on the part of the SHD I can see it would be far from trivial for miniDSP to implement what is required, and it might even be impossible.

Either way, what would be great would be to hear from MiniDSP themselves . . . .

Sorry, I don't really understand you. Why shouldn't DLBC be able to perform bass measurement output just to the output 3/4 of SHD or DDRC-24? Are the channels 3/4 physically attached as a simple copy of outputs 1/2 inside SHD or DDRC-24?

"Are the channels 3/4 physically attached as a simple copy of outputs 1/2 inside SHD or DDRC-24? "

Yes, that is the problem. My understanding is that for DLBC to work it must be able to output to all managed channels separately (and simultaneously). The SHD only has two output signals to work with - no matter how they are routed to the four outputs.
