I own a 4x10 HD fed by a DDRC-22D (yes, MiniDSP does essentially own my house/mortgage). I'm currently running mains and subs from the 4x10 (unbalanced output for subs, balanced output for mains).

Basically all I want in my life is have a very high quality balanced DAC for my 2 main speakers and an "I don't even care" unbalanced DAC for my subwoofers. All I ever run into is problems and arguments about timing, sync, etc trying to use two different DAC.

But ... thought experiment ... since Dirac automatically corrects delay/phase (in theory), does this mean if I use the 4x10 as a DAC for my subwoofers and a second totally different DAC for mains (fed by 4x10 HD digital output) that that the timing/sync difference between DAC's is irrelevant since it will inevitably be corrected by Dirac?

Sounds like a neat setup indeed!
So we understand, you're thinking take the Digital out from the 4x10 to feed your own DAC. Correct?
If so, I don't think it would be an issue as it's very much what is done here in a DDRC-24

It "would" help Dirac tuning if you indeed first time align your SUB/DAC inside the 4x10 prior to running Dirac Live.

Just follow that app note above (but using the 4x10 instead of DDRC-24 plugin for control of time alignment). You'll be all set in no time. :-)

Hello devs, thanks for the reply :)

What I want to do is run a 2.1 set up:

Digital out from 4x10 into an external DAC for the main speakers (high-pass filter)

Analog out from the 4x10 for the subwoofer(s) (low-pass filter)

I know that there can be be problems using 2 different DAC at the same time since one might process faster or slower than the other which can cause the sound not to sync properly, but if Dirac corrects the time delay this should not be a problem?

Or am I thinking entirely wrong?

Unfortunately, I'm sure to follow you 100%.. :-( Even if there were to be some clock offset between 2 dacs, we're talking of few samples, we're not talking of 100ms here.. You're also mentioning a SUB alignment here where the wavelength are huge.. Maybe we're misunderstanding the question as we unfortunately fail to understand how that could ever be the issue (on top of the fact that we just suggested that if there were some delay, Dirac would fix it). Hoping all this clarifies? :-)
