Hi,

I have a 2x4HD to DDRC-24 and I have some difficulties to set up the levels properly.
On the Dirac Live "output and levels" tab there's an option to set up input gain and output volume.
My question is the following:
1.a, It is necessary to leave the levels on the default or can be set to digfferent levels to proceed the measurement?
1.b, It is needed to leave some headroom or can be set to max?

2. If I set the levels to max then I do a measurement and setup, I can hear some distortion in the music during playback at the moment I found a workaround to set the levels to -9dB before the measurement and leave the levels -9dB which provide better result, but in this case there's a 9dB loss in the signal.

3. As I know correctly the dirac can correct +/- 10dB on the signal does this distortion can caused by this?

Maybe follow the instructions in the manual first?

Hey John,

Thank you for your feedback.
You mean this part of the user manual? "If necessary, adjust Input gain or Output volume so that both channels are in the green. When done, click the Proceed button"
So according to this sentence It wasn't necessary to change with the default values I had decent signal, so I made the measurement and then I set the levels on to 0dB because I do not wanted to loose more then 20dB. If I set the levels to 0dB, the playback has distortion.
So please tell me which part of the user manual describe how to set up the levels to have no signal loss and / or distortion.

Yes I have read the whole page, actually the whole user manual.
I still haven't found answer to my question. Maybe I am overlooking something and that's why I'm asking here not because I'm lazy to read.
I have found one another sentence in the user manual but still no comment about headroom or possibly distortion etc:
"Output volume: Adjust the slider to adjust the output volume of the processor. Once the computer is disconnected, output volume can also be adjusted with a remote control" So I assume if the levels can be change with remote control in this case it shouldn't be any limitation to max level?! Isn't it?

No offence but you are barking up the wrong tree :)

What is the output of your DDRC connected to?

It is connected to a crossover.
I made a test where I skip the DDRC24 in this case I have no distortion not even on max level; and I also tried to check the signal with DDRC24 were no filtes or anything applied. In this case I also had no distortion.

OK, so when you do this step in the manual:

"Click on the Test button for the left channel and gradually increase the output volume until it is at a moderate
level, such that your voice would have to be raised to converse with someone sitting next to you."

Where does the output level slider end up?

I have decent levels even on default values.
This means 0dB input gain and around -20dB output levels.
But to be honest I have tried with different settings to try to solve this problem already.
So I have tried to leave the output levels on default and increase or decrease the input gain, I also tried to leave the input gain default and set the output levels higher or lower (but between the green area) the results were same all the time. The measurement successfully finished, then I started to listen. So until if I don't set the master volume above -9dB it sounds well, but If I set above there's not a crazy amount of distortion but hearable

Do you have a volume control downstream of the DDRC? In the crossover, or after or before it?

I have a volume control on the preamp before the DDRC-24.
So the volume control has no impact on the measurement as the signal goes through USB.
The analog source provides max 2V signal so the jumper on the DDRC-24 set to 2V but I never feed the inputs with max level. (I can hear the distortion in lower level as well)

Sorry, I can't figure out what you are saying. On the one hand, you say it distorts on playback, but then you talk about measurement. You say "So until if I don't set the master volume above -9dB it sounds well" but then you say "I can hear the distortion in lower level as well".

Maybe just break it down a little more. Or open a support ticket - support.minidsp.com.

Ok. I'll do it. Thanks.

I mean if I set the master volume above - 9dB o can hear the distortion no matter if the input signal low. As i said before I have a volume control before the DDRC-24.
