Dear All

Great seeing such an active thread with lots of great feedback and back and forth! We do agree that we haven't been the best at communicating on this beta release.... We'd like to sincerely apologize to all of you and ask for a bit of your patience so we can release it correctly. As some may have seen, we've been quite busy and you're seeing only 1/20th of what is going on behind the scenes as far as product dev is going along...
We're still a small happy team and making all our best to keep everybody happy. It may not fit everybody's expectation but we still want to keep true to our values, i.e. only talk when we're ready to ship and have something to show for... Setting expectations with such complex hardware/software/firmware project is only a recipe of disaster..

Enough said! Here is a short update so hopefully everybody is up to date:
1) Dirac 2.0 does work indeed. Some great feedback from the beta team which we can't thank enough! You can see a user manual of how it works from here. www.minidsp.com/images/documents/miniDSP...%20v2.0%20alpha3.pdf
Why it's taking longer isn't actually related to the DSP chipset (they've been doing Dirac for the past 6years, they will keep processing Dirac for the coming years.. ), it's a software/firmware combination with Dirac 2.0 being a completely different architecture and miniDSP not being exactly a new company with a lot of licensees to take care of. If we release something flaky, we'll get in serious trouble support wise.
2) When we compiled the build, we used Dirac 2.1.2 build (latest at that time) which worked fine for most but had some stability issue for others. These were solved in subsequent builds 2.2.1/2.2.2. As we tried to get our software to work with 2.2.2, something broke behind the scenes.. Ahhh the beauty of product dev!! :-)
3) Now that CDSP 8x12DL is out, we're back at software dev and trying to understand what is the reason... I'm sure that we'll shortly figure it out shortly. It's not a major hurdle.

TO DO on our list for stereo versions (applying to SHD/DDRC-22/DDRC-24)
- Release a new build with 2.2.2
- Compile for MAC OSx
Don't ask us when, we're just working as hard as we can to make it happen. Should be enough proof.. :-)

Now on to the multichannel guys! As some of your are wondering, "Where is the love? Did you forget us? ":-) Well, it's unfortunately not as simple as Dirac 2.0 doesn't include anymore the "Custom" option in the first selection and it's a huge bummer as we now need to modify every single plugin to make it tell Dirac what is the configuration. To some, it could be thought of a 2min piece of code on a Friday afternoon, we can tell you it isn't when you wrap your head at the complexity of what customers are doing with DDRC-88A units (2.1 with active, multiway, 5.1/7.1/5.3, multizone speakers...etc etc) and accross multiple presets... Bottom line,it's not easy... So we've got that big task on our list and it will take a bit more time unfortunately. But don't despair, miniDSP isn't exactly a kickstarter project.. We've been at it for 11years so give us a bit of time, we'll get it to happen.

Hoping this long post is enough information? Now back to work!

We're right in the middle of August, summer in the northern hemisphere and usually when people take their summer holidays... so I'm guessing that whatever work rate they have normally is pretty much halved because there are less people working at the same time... I stopped holding my breath a few months ago anyway, it has been a long time since 2.0 was announced early 2018. I'll be happy when it comes out, which should be later for me anyway as I use a Mac. Meanwhile, I'll keep on enjoying my fantastic MiniDSP product.

Would love to have any kind of news though... ;)

Would agree that either a blog or some format of giving out regular updates would not only keep users from bothering the Dev team but also give us an idea and insight in to the progress (or lack of it) on this release.

Mates just chill. Manufacturing stuff is not simple. Quite the contrary - stuff does not happen overnight. Had Team not done the beta no one would be saying nothing. Team did not promise nothing.

Well, we know for a fact that the MiniDSP team are heavily invested in producing the best possible product, including their public commitment to Dirac V.2 etc.

But we also know that if they release something that isn't quite up to everyone's expectations, then they have to divert quite a bit of effort away from what their current workload to address the loud complaints of those who didn't get quite what they wanted...

So, if I were in the MiniDSP dev team, I too would want to make sure that what ever I released as the best I could make it, because anything less gets hammered... and only slows down fixing thing because they're having to put out 'complaint' fires.

So, patience.

I was told soon.
Be patient gang

Honestly think about all the bull shit going on in HK right now. The riots and protests, cut these guys some slack. Shenzhen is also effected it’s like the tech part of HK. I would be willing to bet these guys need to be in our thoughts and prayers more than anything right now.
