Is there a place to talk about our experience with the Beta or are we limited to E-Mails with you?

DevTeam,
Ran it first time.
It’s diffrent ,
I’ll compile a list of of issues (I’ve noticed a few already) and send them to the email you provided. It may take a week to get used to it and have a complete work up, I’ll make it as complete as I can.

Would it be beneficial for all beta users to send crash logs and .wer files ?

going to Control Panel → Administrative Tools → Event Viewer → Expand the “Windows Logs” folder on the left pane → select “Application” item ?

@devteam are we going to get dirac v2 for DDRC88D soon too? I'm curious if there's a beta program for it.

Hi everyone,

I get an Error (1003 - Device internal error) while trying to export the Dirac filters to the DDRC-24.
Is it because the Beta-Build of Dirac 2.0 has expired at the end of April?
If yes, should I switch back to the old Dirac version or is a new Dirac 2.0 build planned in the near future?

I am underwhelmed with the communication from MiniDSP regarding Dirac Live 2.0. Are those of us who have been strong advocates of MiniDSP products over the last several years going to be forced to consider alternate solutions in order to have Dirac’s latest technology? Any news would be very welcome.

Does Dirac 2 actually have any new technology in it yet? As of a year ago (www.minidsp.com/forum/dirac-series-suppo...pport?start=30#36659) the only change was a new GUI and a truckload of work for miniDSP to implement it.

From the Dirac web site “In addition to the usability upgrades, the new Dirac Live also includes an enhanced phase correction algorithm for improved stereo reproduction. Where the previous version of Dirac Live individually measured the phase of each stereo speaker, this new version also analyzes speakers in pairs, which ensures that the pair’s phase responses are matched to each other.”

IMO, analyzing speakers in pairs is a significant step forward. And, of course, Dirac has announced plans to release a new bass module during Q2/2019 that analyzes and corrects multiple subs, rather than the current approach of measuring and correcting a single combined sub signal.

My point is that these enhancements are very appealing to fans of Dirac Live, enough so that unless a new MiniDSP product incorporating Dirac Live 2.0 is forthcoming, we may be forced to turn to other products.

So, you'd be looking for DL2 in a new miniDSP product? - rather than an update to the existing product e.g. DDRC-88.

Have you seen any reports about the effectiveness of the new phase correction thingy? I guess it would be very ahrd to do a direct comparison.

I honestly don’t care whether the 88A gets an upgrade to DL 2.0, or whether MiniDSP releases an entirely new product incorporating DL 2.0. I like the idea of having an external device that sits between my Marantz pre-pro and my power amplifier, neither of which I want to replace for now. I would also be perfectly happy with a new device that only supports eight channels, like the 88A, since I have a 7.1 setup. I have no plans to add overhead speakers for Atmos.

The other technologies that already support DL 2.0 would entail replacing the Marantz, which as I have said, I don’t want to do.

As for the effectiveness of the new DL version, I have not seen a detailed technical discussion articulating perceived audio improvements. The NAD discussion groups are disappointingly non-technical, and have very little discussion about Dirac itself. I suspect NAD owners are receiving their first exposure to Dirac, and would have no clue WRT differences over DL 1.0. However, I respect Dirac as a company, and have faith that if they bring a new technology to market, it will have sonic improvements.

While I do fully understand the frustration that many feel I aslo feel that MiniDSP are ina very difficult postion . The Dirac changes have been done for their future in order to make the software more modern and allow the space withing the program make changes and advances.
MiniDSP are not using the very latest hardware chips and there is a great dealk of work they need to do to ensure that any addition of Dirac 2.0 does not fail , crash or give mixed results . At the same time they have to see if they can also future proof their units as customers will more easily accept an upgrade rather then having to buy a complete new unit which may give you a small step up now but a much bigger improvement in the future.

I do fully agree that the lack of any feedback or information on the progress of the current beta testers is not great and even if the news is bad it is better to have the feedback and be aware of any progress or lack of progress than just wondering. It is MiniDSP who chose we can only hope that we get some news soon .

Given your deep involvement in developing technical user guides for Dirac 1, the lack of public discourse on Dirac 2 must be frustrating (it is for me). I wondered why NAD users were chosen first and I think it may be due to the fact many of them are new to Dirac so have a different set of expectations. You seem to have come to similar conclusions. Markus did briefly have a chance to offer some subjective views on audible differences (not much IIRC) but that was with the initial release. There are a handful of comments that speak positively on improvements of the new version at Audiophyle Style , where Flavio seems to be most active. Plenty of recent comments about the very beta nature of Dirac 2 as well.
At this stage I think that investing in alternative hardware to gain access would be premature. Jerry, your usually measured temperament will surely help you hold on jut a little longer?!

Guys relax ,

The 2.0 works great . Can’t say no more.
The interface is just fine with current hardware
Not to say someday they (minidsp) might change to the new next best thing in chipsets , who knows, but the 2.0 will be just fine with current gear. Worry not

They don’t do beta tests or go as far as what we know without having it nailed down and a for sure thing.

They don’t say “hey we’re going to be releasing 2.0 for yalls than say , just kidding couldn’t make it work, if they say there doing it , by time we hear anything about it it’s already bought and paid for and a done deal

All I'll say is be patient.

The miniDSP team has a track record of being successful, helpful and resourceful for it seems to be about a decade now? As opposed to the usual way they have communicated working on DL2 as shown by the beta program. (I participated but gave up since my virtual machine just wasn't having it).

Whenever the Team will release the update will be a great moment and even if we'll have to pay for the update it will a great opportunity. If it will be free then even more so - I will be patient - and as long as it takes that's how long I will wait patiently. If it never comes out - that's fine with me too - I wasn't promised such an update at time of order.

Now I shall whip out the UMIK-1 and go do some 2-way active tuning with my tried and tested DDRC-24 which is a magnificent piece of tech which has been worth every penny.

Awe that’s too bad. It was like a little bit of magic.
I would’ve went and bought a different laptop just for beta.
