I'd be all over an affordably-priced upgrade, assuming its feasible.

+1 - It would be very nice

If I buy the 22D today can I expect to be able to upgrade to latest version of Dirac with or without extra cost?

I would love to see my existing DDRC upgraded for free, but if not, I would happily pay a reasonable fee for it.

I would be interested into the answer too for the DDRC-24. I would like to buy one, but only if it will support the new version.

An answer would be appreciated..

Like you I would like to get an answer. My thoughts are that the longer it takes to have news, the lower are our chances that an upgrade will be possible. I am afraid that the hardware in our unit (88-BM or nanoAvr-DL) won't have the place to put into the new software... BTW I know nothing about electronics. Just my 2 cents.

It appears to me that much of the difference in the new Dirac is to the Calibration Tool (DLCT), which doesn't run on the boxes but on your PC/Mac. The DLCT is the interface for doing measurements, etc. and the software that building the filters. The Boxes merely load the filters and implement them with the audio signals. According to what the Devs posted above, the DSP units in the boxes are required to do a little more with the new implementation but I can't imagine that they won't be able to implement at least some, if not all, of the additional features with the current hardware. So try to be patient with them. It will come in due time.

Dear All

We're going to try to summarize what was mentioned before in few post and hopefully it will be used as a reference for the future...

Dirac 2.0 - Understand what it is and what it does

STEP#1: Please before asking about Dirac live 2.0, please read this blog www.dirac.com/dirac-blog/qa-new-dirac-live

STEP#2: You read that FAQ as step#1 right?? If you didn't please don't move to step 2.. listen please :-)
OK, then let's highlight what Dirac has to say and what matters....

Q: So what features do these new calibration tools have?
The answer here will probably disappoint some of you, but the features of the new calibration tools are very similar to what is available today. We have done some work on the phase correction part of the algorithm to improve stereo reproduction, and we expect the new software to be more accurate in calculating gain and delay offsets. We have also set out to make the new tool significantly easier to use with a more friendly feel, which will hopefully lower the bar of entry so that more users feel they can make use of Dirac Live room correction technology.

Q: But if the new software doesn’t add all that much, why are you even bothering to do this?

That is a fair question. The current software had its first beta release back in 2011. That is a long time ago for a piece of software. Since then, we have tried to maintain it so that it works well for new operating systems. But other than that, not much has changed. It has served its purpose well, but from a technical perspective we feel it has reached the end of the line. We cannot easily add new features to it, and maintaining it for upcoming Windows and macOS releases keeps getting harder and harder. For that reason, we decided to replace it with a new software base about 12 months ago with two main objectives:

It needs to be easy to add new functionalities
It needs to be easy to maintain
Once we have released the first version we expect there will be quite a few things to fix—there always are with a first release of a new software. After that, our intention is to sit down and add improvements and, eventually, also new features.

Bottom, line before we all get on the urgent talk of "I need Dirac 2.0 now else my whole hifi system is going to crash!" ;-) , please understand that Dirac 2.0 adds "nothing" to the GUI. Literally, we could put Dirac 2.0 in front of you right now, today, you would not know of it..

So let's get this out of the way as a VERY important step to understand why Dirac introduced 2.0. It's a complete redesign of the "code" at the back and the way the software communicates to 3rd party devices to ease integration to OEM. It doesn't bring any added features for now I'm afraid... :-(

STEP#3: How do we know that? Because we've got it almost up and running... : -)( BUT (and it's a big BUT), it is a COMPLETE different architecture and requires some accessory to make it happen. We've ported quite a lot of our work already to make it happen but are waiting on Dirac team to release some updates to make things happen... as it's our company policy, we won't say much until we have something really working. For now, it's work in progress. No timeline. No promises.

So hopefully, all this info clarifies your hunger for getting a Dirac 2.0 that looks 200% the exact same GUI as whatever everybody is now using.. :-) Dirac 2.0 Will bring some new features in the future (unknown timeline as per FAQ) and once they do, surely, you can come back to us with some reason why you need it.. For now, stand still, relax, and enjoy your music :-)

Have fun!

Thanks a lot for the update on this.

Personally I don't really need additional functionality, though V2.0 brings me exactly what I was hoping for: More accurate phase correction measurement.

Until now I did all kind of (acoustic) tricks during the measuments to let Dirac 'think' not much phase correction had to be done. This gave the best results in my situation.

According to this article from Dirac there was supposed to be a rather significant improvement with the new version.

www.dirac.com/news/2017/12/7/dirac-resea...platform-at-ces-2018

Where the previous version of the Dirac Live algorithm individually measured the phase of each stereo speaker, this new version also analyzes speakers in pairs. By doing so, the algorithm ensures that the pair’s phase responses are matched to each other. The upgrade will further enhance Dirac Live’s ability to improve staging and imaging – already key strengths of the platform – and will deliver immediate and obvious improvements to all users.

So it seems this won't be in from the beginning. Which is surprising since this has been officially announced as a feature which should probably be pretty deep integrated at the core of the new algorithm.

That seems to be in line with their FAQ from Devteam's post, which states : "We have done some work on the phase correction part of the algorithm to improve stereo reproduction, and we expect the new software to be more accurate in calculating gain and delay offsets."

That sounds like it is going to be included in the launch release and will be a pretty significant point of improvement.

FWIW, I would happily pay a subscription to pay for ongoing enhancement of your Dirac implementation.

Better software should be paid for.

Any news on when we'll have Dirac 2.0 available for our products? A friend is beta testing 2.0 Dirac Live on his computer (he didn't have 1.0), and I'm really looking forward to testing it on my DDRC-24.

Hi! Sorry for being so insistent... any estimate on when we'll have 2.0 available? Weeks, months, next year?
