I am trying to decide between a DDRC22 A and DDRC DA for my home recording studio, which uses a Behringer X32 digital mixing console. That console has an AES/EBU out, and I have confirmed that I can assign the appropriate monitoring busses to that out. The DDRC22 output will be XLR analog to a vintage Crown DC300A amp.

Assuming there are no incompatibilities, I presume it would be preferable to use the digital input of the DDRC22 DA, which would avoid an extra DA-AD conversion. I am just a little concerned that there might be issues with that hookup, and in addition, an all analog DDRC22 might be more flexible for future use.

Has anyone used a DDRC22 DA AES/EBU input with a Behringer console? And in general, any thoughts on the pros and cons I am tossing around?

Thanks!

I guess I don't know why you foresee the AES connection having issues. FWIW though, you can convert between the "types", ask miniDSP for the replacement rear panel when you order.

Thats for reply. I don't anticipate problems with AES/EBU - I just haven't used it before, and the MiniDSP gear isn't returnable. But I ordered it (DRCC-22DA). I see the right signal on the AES/EBU out of my mixing console, so it should be fine.

Do you mean that all the DRCC-22s are interchangeable except for the IO on the back? Aren't the front panels different as well? Interesting! I think I can wait and see if there are any problems with the stock configuration - I don't expect there will be. If there are, I'm sure the Dev Team will help me get up and running...

Thanks!

That's a good point, the -A version doesn't have the LEDs for the digital input selection, AFAIK. So that would be a bit more work to convert, but essentially the difference in the hardware is the I/O board on/and the rear panel.

@ Joe,

You can indeed interchange the IO card as you wish. Note that you do need to pay attention to the front panel + VOL-=FP sometimes.
e.g. DDRC-22A (i.e. only 4 LED) to DDRC-22D/DA will require 1 x new front panel + 1 x new VOL-FP since there are more LEDS for the source selection.

Making sense?

Good to know that this can be done, just in case. Hopefully, the DDRC-22DA version will work with my setup as I expect, and I won't need to switch it! Thank you.

I am getting mine tomorrow. I am very interested in how it will perform in the studio conditions!

Mine works, but I am having some issues getting the level of correction the software trial provided. Dev Team is working it through with me. Let's keep each other posted.

I have not used the demo version of the software so I cannot compare. I have compared only to the ARCII plug-in and as far as my ears go I find the minidsp very interesting. It provides for a much clearer stereo staging and frequency response. I have mixed a couple of projects on it and so far so very good!
