I am considering the DDRC-22D. I already have a Benchmark DAC1 (effectively a fixed-gain DAC). Is the DDRC-22D volume control all that I need?

@ miniDoug

Indeed, the doing the volume control at the DDRC-22D would be the place to be.

And this would be "about as good", in terms of resolution and dynamic range, as a traditional analog volume control?

Definitively not as good. I use a UGS preamplifier, very close to X0.2 Pass Labs preamplifier with rehabilited Threshold SA/6e and Magnepan 3.7.
But DDRC-22D is necessary for my system listening...
