Yes, of course. But the question is whtether the total result could be even better by tuning every single driver individually. My assumption is that this could be beneficial, for a variety of reasons. But I don't make any claims to expertise in this area :)

I think the theory/reasoning is that you don't want to measure each driver individually, because then you are not taking into account the interaction between the multiple drivers together and the room (which is how you actually listen to things). The idea is that you measure them all together (including subs) so that Dirac can measure the interaction between them all and the room.

I am in the market for a good DAC under $500 - looking at Emotiva Stealth DC-1. It is difficult to get my room treated acoustically, so Dirac Live should help, so I am looking at MiniDSP 2x4 DL as well.

Wondering where MiniDSP announces the availability of new products first? Is it the Announcements section of this forum, homepage, this thread, etc.? Basically, what should I subscribe to?

The 2x4 DL was announced at CES in January. I don't there has been an announcement to their newsletter yet, but you can subscribe here: www.minidsp.com/aboutus/newsletter

@ oivavoi

Based on some already very good comments from John and occmasrazor, we indeed agree that based on experience:
- Single DIRAC Live filter on "overall" sub channel that is then "split" (matrix mixer) and filtered/time aligned separately will indeed work better than 4 unique Dirac live filters. That's based on examples with the DDRC-88A and others. But then again, happy to see others. If you need 4 x Dirac Live filter, the 2x4DL isn't what you need. You'll need a DDRC-88A.
- We're now out of stock of the board and doing a new batch of modules. The 2x4DL will hopefully come out very soon after the release of the DDRC-88BM (now in final stages of debug).

hoping this info helps.

It is ended a very interesting product that seems to be soon released.
I'm also waiting for the MiniDSP 2x4DL to be availalbe.
By the way I'm pretty shure I read somewhere on this site the the 2x4HD and/or 2x4DL will be compatible with I2S input and output, but not ready yet.

Am I correct? Wrong.
I guess that In my case my dream product would be the up to dats version of the minishark kit that will support DL
I'm looking forward to the next moves of mini dsp team. Great work guys. Thanks a lot!

Thanks:) Yeah, it helps, but I'm still slightly confused as to whether this can be used to integrate a sub and use DL, or whether I will need to buy a different box to that. Will there be a possibility for bass management/crossover, so that I can crossover at 80 hz for example, and send everything above that to the mains, and everything below to the subwoofer(s)? (then I could connect the two subs and use them as one "channel", I guess). And I will still be able to correct/equalize the whole result with DL?

Again, sorry if these questions are dumb. I've never used Dirac or a box from minidsp before, so it's a new world for me...

Yes, it will be possible.

Once the product is out, I'm sure that you'll learn a lot more reading from the user manual.. :-)
As per our company policy, we'd never talk of products until they are ready to ship. The 2x4DL news got spilled during CES show but there are details that we'd like to keep hidden until they are finalized. :-) Thanks for your patience!

hi devteam.

I'll then keep my mouth shut and my eyes big open. I'm really looking forward to this release.
Keep the good work going.
Best regards.

Hey guys,

I have a question. My music listening setup is relatively straightforward: PC, USB DAC (Emotiva DC-1), and then XLR connections to speakers plus two 3.5mm headphone outputs. The speakers are good for 48kHz output (96kHZ and higher results in intermodulation noise: xiph.org/~xiphmont/demo/neil-young.html).

What would be the best way to add room correction to the speakers only, while leaving the headphones as is?

1. I could add DDRC-22A between DC-1 and speakers, but I am worried about extra ADC/DAC steps and their associated distortion.

2. I could replace DC-1 with DDRC-22DA, but it has no headphone amp. I can use both DC-1 (headphones only) and DDRC-22DA (speakers only), but I have found no reviews on the quality of the DAC in DDRC-22DA, and it can be a hassle to switch between the two devices from PC since neither DC-1, nor DDRC-22DA has a digital passthrough output.

3. I could run Dirac on my PC, but then it is a hassle to switch it off whenever I need to listen to headphones, plus there's some extra load on the CPU.

And a side question: would the upcoming 2x4 DL help me any better than DDRC-22*?

Well, the 2x4 DL has USB input, which the DDRC-22D or DA doesn't have... also it's (will be) a fair bit cheaper.

Whilst noting the policy of not discussing details of unreleased products....... do you have any further info as to the rough timescale of when the 2x4 DL might be released?

I've recommended a lot of MiniDSP products to my friends and now finally there is one that has my interest: the MiniDSP 2x4DL. I've read through this forum and have some more technical questions:

Does the internal processing run at 24/96k for the unit?

Which digital inputs are available: HDMI, USB, I2S, Toslink???

I have a number of digital sources in my system and am hoping that the DevTeam will do their usual super job of proving flexible inputs and outputs.

It's the same hardware as the 2x4 HD so will have the same inputs.

I suspect (based on nanoAVR HD -> nanoAVR DL) that the 2x4 DL will run at 48k. Just a guess, could be wrong.

Dev Team - If I buy the 2x4HD now will I be able to software upgrade it to the Dirac Live version as with other products?

Very much so. We'll have an upgrade path similar to what we're doing for the nanoAVR and OpenDRC series (support for Dirac live).
