Line Out mode for driving external amplification with balanced line-level signal
3.7 ANALOG OUTPUTS
There are twelve analog output channels provided on two connector blocks. To simplify connection, mating
connectors with labelled pigtails are provided with the Harmony unit.1
There are three modes for the outputs. This is set for each output channel using the plugin.
1. Line-level output. Line-level outputs are a balanced output with full-scale output of 5 VRMS. Connect
the + and – terminals to a balanced input of a power amplifier. Note: you cannot connect to single ended
amplifier inputs.
2. BTL (bridge-tied load) mode. Connect the + and – terminals to a single speaker or speaker driver. Note:
be sure not to connect the negative output to ground, as both positive and negative outputs are “hot.”
3. PBTL (parallel bridge-tied load) mode. Connect the + and – terminals of the odd-numbered channel to
the positive speaker terminal. Connect the + and – terminals of the corresponding even-numbered
channel to the negative speaker terminal. Note: be sure not to connect any output to ground.

How do I wire an external amplifier as an output? Do you use a speaker wire to rca adapter?

what do you mean? do you want to use an external amp with the C-DSP?

I should have been more clear initially.

1. I have the minidsp Harmony which is a 8x12 DL car audio amplifier/dsp in one. It is brand new and I am having a difficult time finding information on it and help.

2. The Harmony unit only puts out 40 watts per channel, which isn't even close to enough power for my midbass, midrange, and subs(tweeters are okay). It says in the manuel that you can Parallel bridge-tied load - which uses 2 output channels for 1 speaker, but it then gives out 80 watts at 2ohm(isn't that basically the same as 40 watts at 4 ohm).

3. What I want to do is connect an external amplifier to some of the output channels to use my amplifier for the speakers but use the dsp/DL for processing. The manuel says that you can use the analog output as a line-level output. Its says that connect + and - terminals to a balanced input of a power amplifier, BUT I AM UNSURE HOW TO DO THAT?? I need a picture of what the wiring would look like. Do I need to use a speakerwiure to rca adapter.

fyi it says ion the manual that the Lin0level output -cannot connect to a single ended amplifier input?? not sure what that means.

please help

I'll try to look into it to see if I can clarify based on the manual
I have no own experience with this new 8x12, hopefully somebody else can answer.
in case no reply here on the forum, you can of course open a ticket with miniDSP support.

Hello,

I'm considering this unit for my car, and was also a bit confused by this section in the manual.

I think by saying "cannot be connected to a single-ended input," they are (rightly) assuming that some equipment (including car audio) will have the shield connection of its single-ended inputs connected to ground, and you don't want to connect either side of a balanced output directly to ground - especially in this case, where the outputs can instantly become high-current amplifier outputs at the click of a button in the plugin software!

Some clarification from Devteam on this would be welcome, but they don't seem to hang out around here much these days...

Flexible output configurations cater to a wide variety of system configurations: each output can be a 40 Wrms power amplifier or a line-level output for driving external amplifiers - This is what I am trying to accomplish

Fewatures
400MHz 32bit Sharc Floating point processor
Dirac Live technology helps tune your cabin environment
All Digital amplifier
USB Audio (6ch), Toslink(2ch), A2B (future) digital inputs
12 channel flexible amplifier for Mono/Bridged mode and Line OUT[driving external amplifier) - This is what I am trying to accomplish
Flexible DSP processing blocks, Rear Fill processing (L-R, L+R..) thanks to internal matrix
Windows/Mac compatible GUI
Remote control or preset/master & sub volume control

@ttomassini

You already started a support ticket where we already explained the details but it's quite simple, in line out mode, the amplifier output is a "line out" signal. You just connect the + to your RCA center pin, - to shell. Here is a simple accessory

please use your already opened support tix for more details.

thanks for stepping in. could you clarify for the rest of us this statement from the manual:
Line-level outputs are a balanced output with full-scale output of 5 VRMS. Connect the + and – terminals to a balanced input of a power amplifier. Note: you cannot connect to single-ended amplifier inputs
