Can the c-dsp 8x12 be used in a home hifi system? Nothing else gives me what this unit can for a 6 way x-over with digital in.

It certainly can, I am currently using my C-DSP 6x8 in my home temporarily while my NanoAVR's are being sent to MiniDSP for repairs.

My question is whether the DIRAC functionality differs between any of the MiniDSP Dirac products?
Dirac is not something I am very familiar with but something I am now starting to look into.

How do you adjust for the high vrms output? Attenuate?

Just a warning of caution here worth noting. The CDSP8x12 is a car audio platform full of little details meant to mitigate noise in a very noisy car environment (lack of clean ground). That's a completely different setup than a home setup where you have 50~60Hz from your AC and earthing. Few comments:
a) A linear supply would be required (as it requires earthing)
b) All inputs are "differential balanced" = like balanced input. So it's not the same as a simple RCA.

For that reason, the 8x12 isn't as simple as a swap for one platform to the other.

In terms of powering the C-DSP 8x12 v2, would this SMPS be alright?: www.minidsp.com/products/accessories/mis...psu-12v-800ma-detail

How much power would the C-DSP draw? How many amps at 12v?

I'm also interested in using this unit for home audio purposes. I want stereo 4-way active (2 in, 8 out), FIR filtering, and optical input. It looks like either two miniDSP 2x4 HD's with optical splitter or this unit. For issue (b), you say "All inputs", does that mean issue (b) is a non-issue if using optical input, or does the issue exist on the analog outputs as well?

Thank you,
Wes

The 8x12 does support Dirac but the 6x8 does not according the documetation as I read it. I am currently in the process of using a 6x8 in my system. The nano avr will not interface with my new monitor. Havent made the transition, hopefully in a couple of days.

I am currently using an 800ma 12v supply with the C-dsp 6x8 and it is seems to work fine. I think the requirements for most of the minidsp products that don't include a power amp would work with a max of 1.2amps.

Could you elaborate on the 'differential inputs'...

I am currently using the CDSP on my hone stereo to great effect using digital only - I love it; but recently tried quickly to connect it to my home theatre pre-amp and had horrendous 50hz or ground loop type hum. I immediately assumed it was something to do with my setup - the connections, power supply issues or something so parked it and haven't re-visited it.

My pre-amp has both RCA (single ended) and XLR (balanced) outputs and I would like to use these for TV/Movie wacthing with the DSP running the front stereo and the pre-amp straight into power amps for the surround channels.  I used to do this with my old 4x10 dsp before I had to replace it with my cdsp.

How best should I wire the analogue outputs from my pre-amp into the analogue inputs on the DSP?

Thanks for any advice!

Kind regards,

Jai Stanley

It’s pseudo balanced with CMR
(common mode rejection)

a small handful of amps inputs freak out with these ….. a simple transformer can usually remedy it if I remember right ….

I would definitely put one in a home and if the rcas are wrong type then make it work by figuring it out.
