Also updated my SHD Studio 1. Gen and so far everything is fine (no warnings after the update) except for the following issue:

When skipping fastly between different tracks in my playlist (all files stored in local NAS) within Volumio then it seems that sometimes no muting happens during the skipping process - as a result a kind of pop / hiss- noise is output by my speakers as well as the sub (2.1 setup).

Is this a known issue / does this also occur for others?

Thanks.

I have the same issue. I filed a support ticket two days ago. No response yet. I guess theyre busy these days with the major update and all. :)

OK, thanks for the prompt feedback - then let's hope that the next firmware update will already adress that issue.

I have 2 Flex unbalanced.  The first updated without issue.  The second seems to be locked up with the minidsp logo on the screen even though the updates seemed to install fine.  I've tried multiple times the reboot procedure specified in the Device Console.  Second Flex doesn't show up on DC nor can I get past the minidsp logo screen.  Any ideas?

I also just submitted a support ticket.

To follow-up:
Got a reply from minidsp support today.  Wound up having to reset this Flex (unplug, press reset button on back, keep button pressed and plug in, connect via DC and reset all).  Thought I'd probably have to do a reset but manual specifies wait for input from tech support.  Unit is working fine now.  Great support from minidsp.

Dear All

A new build is now fixing the little red flag.

21/9/2023, 1:00:56 pm
XMOS Firmware (v1.62)
- [SHD, 2x4HD/DDRC-24] - Fixing the false DSP-Error flag

Device Console
- Fixed a potential problem that after XMOS firmware update completed - the device does not restart as instructed. Require power-cycling manually.

For those affected by the false DSP Error from prior version, we recommend: 1) update the DC to get the new firmware on the computer. 2) Then open session to their 2x4HD/DDRC-24/SHD. You will be prompted to recover the error by programming either firmware. Now choose XMOS firmware to update. It will program the new one and reboot. The false alarm should no longer appear.

Please use our support portal if you have questions/issues. We'd be happy to help!

Issue still persists with the latest firmware - I raised a support ticket accordingly.

I  installed 1.1.12 and the new xmos driver. It took a power cycle on the 2x4hd and a computer reboot. The red warning is gone. I did smell a faint "burnt electronics" odor, but the thing is still running and making music. If it doesn't die in the next few days...

I've just updated my Gen 1 or 2 (can't remember which it is) SHD.  The upgrade process went smoothly on Windows 10, and it's certainly a lot simpler than the old manual upgrade method before Device Console came along.

Thanks for reinstating the brightness and timeout settings, I much prefer it with a 10s timeout rather than 2 minutes.

Another issue, or at least change: in the previous version there was absolutely no signal coming from the AES output on my SHD Studio when muted or when nothing was playing on LAN. Consequently, my powered speakers would go into standby. After the update, there is always a signal…my speakers won’t reach standby mode anymore. Probably related to the change in volume-ASRC order.

Btw after 1.62 update, I had to reboot my device, as there was absolutely no sound immediately after the update.

I'm really wondering if the 1.62 update contains an actual fix or just a workaround to hide potential issues / icons.

I'm also getting random ticks a few seconds after power on. They were never present before 1.61.

How many other hidden bugs will we find? I didnt get the chance to fully test the unit.

Software QA has taken a dive...

Such updates should be better prepared and tested, especially considering the time frame since the last update.

In the world of software its like navigating a minefield. No matter how its tested before general release its true test is when its thrown open to everyone. Even Microsoft has had its bad days.

My flex has so far no issues what so ever. Updating was easy.

Unfortunately minidsp can't account for all setups. Implying this is a software QA in your situation does not mean its universal across other minidsp devices.

I don't want to sound harsh, but they should account for all their devices. I'm not talking about the complete setup, just referring to the unit itself. I'm not the only one with issues.

I would not compare MiniDSP with Microsoft. Totally different scale and complexity...

So, from the perspective of properly testing the update, the software QA is not that great. Especially since the changes are not radical. Additionally, this is not the first time that such things happen...

It was an observation from my side and should be considered as a feedback towards the development team. Mistakes happen, but it's important to learn out of them...

From my perspective, we should leave it as is... No need to continue.

I still have my issue that my device doesn't show in Device Console, so the only way I can use it is via a direct USB connection to minidsp, which is not viable as my PC is in a different room.
I've tried reverting to previous version of s/w, but this fails in a similar way.

I know Support are looking at the problem, & I believe have struggled to reproduce, & it's a frustration. I can only hope they can provide a solution.

Usage: Minidsp 2x4 HD & Wi-DG, wireless connection, using Win 10 PC.

With v1.62 installed, after a random number of power off/standby and power on cycles, there is no sound at all (SHD Studio).

You could try it with "VirtualHere" if you have a spare Laptop, Raspi or anything that runs an OS and has a USB Port and Wifi.

Thanks marcus - Just tried that & it works - so gives me a work-around for now.

The main issue is it requires a laptop to be plugged into my minidsp, when the wi-dg should be doing this automatically.

I appreciate the suggestion, but do hope Support manage to get the system working as designed, asap!

thanks,
Malcolm
