Dear All,

Following few weeks of dev across all the platforms, we're excited to release a major update for both Software, Firmware (XMOS + DSP) on all platforms. We chose to release at once across all platforms which made the update a bit more complex than usual.. Thanks for all your patience and feel free to contact our team if you have any questions.
As usual, you will need to update both XMOS/DSP + Device console to enjoy most benefits.

18/09/2023 - Rev 1.1.1118/9/2023, 1:00:56 pm
DSP Firmware
- [All Models] Noise performance improvement on filter response for IIR filters
- [All Models] Volume control moved before ASRC in DSP chain to help against potential distortion caused by intersample peaks

XMOS Firmware
- [All Models] More informative messages will be displayed on screen instead of DSP FAIL. The DeviceConsole will provide the necessary recovery steps.
- [SHD, Flex, Flex-8] OLED Display will turn off after idle for a user-specified period of time. Brightness when the display is ON can also be set. These settings are now available in the Device Console under 'Display Settings' for each model.
- [SHD, Flex, Flex-8] miniDSP Logo now appears during boot-up

Dirac:
- Fixed a bug of Dirac software error that occurred if users gave a long non-English (UTF-8) name string to a filter slot.

GUI Changes:
- Left Side Menu can be shown or hidden. (Refer to the View menu)
- Fixed bug where Volumio-Version-Checker periodic checking keeps on stacking up alert dialogs.
- Resize to fit content when program window is 'maximized' and 'unmaximized'
- Improvement on device reboot sequence
- Device sessions closes gracefully.
- Display a error dialog with suggested recovery-steps when the number of retries getting device identification exceeded maximum.
- Removed the UAC-2 Version-Checking
- Device Console can upgrade 2x4HD/DDRC-24 XMOS firmware from as low as v1.18.
- Fixed bug where the preset names are copied to other presets during Reset-All.
- Changes made to Preset Name now take effect immediately.
- Offer a method to recover if DSP information is corrupted.
- Improved the button alignments in the DSP context menu
- [Template Device] 'Dummy' RMS Meter now changes within a limited range, and actually respond to 'Mute' button.
- Do not prompt for Software OTA Update while performing XMOS and DSP firmware programming.

I've also performed the update. The SHD device is recognized and seems to work, but there is a warning icon displayed on the screen, as well as in the Device Console. No additional information. How to debug?

Thanks.

Hello there,

I've also performed the update.
The SHD device is recognized and is working after three times Powercycling, but there is a warning icon displayed on the screen, as well as in the Device Console.
The warning message cannot be read full...

I have the warning symbol on a 2x4HD and have opened a support ticket. Enough people have the problem that it is likely to be fixed soon. In the meantime I removed the new console version and reinstalled the old one while turning off updates.

Dear All,

Thanks for the feedback and thanks to those that sent us the logs to help.  With regards to the little icon, no worries, the earth will still rotate.. :-)
It's just a little warning when trying to configure the DAC chipset related to a timing on some versions of hardware (i.e. not widespread to all hardware). We have a lot of units out there (And DC deals with a lot of them). For the majority of you, you'd be all fine. Once again, even with this tiny icon showing up, the DAC very much works as it should. It's just a "visual" bug so no worries. :-)

A new release will be sent shortly. A simple update and you'll be all good!

For the WIDG issue, best to start a support ticket (if you didn't already). We're investigating and will revert asap we have more info.

Unbeknown to most of you is the fact that this firmware release is basically the most major release we've ever done.. Modifying DSP/XMOS/DC operation in a way that was never done before. For that reason, possible that indeed even with all the best testing we could do over the past few months, there could be some little ningles. It happens in this world of complex firmware/software/hardware.. :-)

Thanks for your patience,

DevTeam

Maybe it's just my imagination, but seems my SHD Studio sounds a bit different after the update. No complaints, seems slightly more detailed and more depth in soundstage. And...the display timeout is back! Thanks.

Also updated my SHD Studio 1. Gen and so far everything is fine (no warnings after the update) except for the following issue:

When skipping fastly between different tracks in my playlist (all files stored in local NAS) within Volumio then it seems that sometimes no muting happens during the skipping process - as a result a kind of pop / hiss- noise is output by my speakers as well as the sub (2.1 setup).

Is this a known issue / does this also occur for others?
Thanks.
