Dear All

Please note that Volumio team released a new plugin for Spotify solving all connectivity issues. Please uninstall both Spotify connect and older Spotify plugin.
You can install the Spotify for Volumio 2 plugin (v3.0.3)

Note: one small bug remain that Volumio team couldn't fix at this time right before their yearly break. If you start a  Spotify playlist from Volumio Web GUI  and then control it from Spotify connect, it will unfortunately skip track as Volumio already preloaded the GUI. Volumio team plans to fix this asap they are back early September.

Thanks again for all your patience!  Feel free to contact us directly with a support ticket if you have any questions.

The old spotify connect plugin allowed for other spotify users to cast to the device as well, it seems that the new plugin does not support this and makes it useless in our specific case as my girlfriend cannot cast to the player.

I did install the new plugin, did not enter any account data in the plugin‘s settings and my daughter was able to stream from her phone‘s spotify app to the SHD Studio. So I think everything still works fine?

I can't get the Spotify plugin to actually play anything. I can browse the Spotify library but if I click Play on any track or playlist, nothing plays. I get a notification that says, "Started playback of <trackname>" but get no sound. If I click on the Zones & Outputs and select the Minidsp-shd device, it will populate the cover art and track progress meter, but it doesn't actually advance.

Hm I'm not sure then what I am doing wrong. The Spotify connect plugin always worked but I just cannot get this one to show up to cast to. I will factory reset my Volumio installation and try again. For now my workaround is casting to my TV but it's a waste of energy to have the TV on to listen to music of course.

Did you uninstall both old spotify plugins? Like it is said in the initial posting?
My test was playing to the SHD by using the spotify android app. (Does volumio offer playing spotify tracks by using volumio's web frontend? This was not tested by me.)

The only issue I had was that changing the volume on the android phone did lead to volume jumps of 1,5db. I would prefer 0,5db but could not find a way to configure this.

The are two Spotify plugins:

1) Spotify plugin for Volumio2 (the one shown in the screenshot from devteam).
2) Volumio Spotify Connect2 (this is the one you use for Spotify Connect).

If you're using the Spotify Android App and connecting to the SHD, you're using the second plugin.

The first plugin should allow you to browse/play Spotify from the Volumio App. I can get the browsing part working, but it won't play anything.

devteam's post at the start of this thread specifically says to delete your plugin 2) though?

I never installed 2) Volumio Spotify Connect2. I only have 1) Spotify plugin for Volumio2. Are you suggesting it needs both for 1) to work? I can definitely try that.

Well, I tried it with both Plugins (no success), deleted both of them, reinstalled "Spotify plugin for Volumio2" and tried again (no success).

No, it was you seemingly suggesting some people install this. I was pointing out the instructions given at the start of the thread were not to have it installed.

For me I have uninstalled the old spotify connect plugin or whatever it is called, so no spotify plugin was installed. Then I did install the new Spotify for Volumio 2 plugin (v3.0.3) . This supports the connect feature as well.

I'm not suggesting anyone do anything. I'm reporting that I can't get Spotify to play music through Volumio (either the Android Volumio App or the controlling Volumio through a web browser).

I just tried Spotify Connect using the Android Spotify App (with only the Spotify plugin for Volumio2 plugin installed on the SHD). That works. I didn't realize that this plugin handled both Spotify and Spotify Connect so that may be where some of the confusion was.

It's nice that Spotify Connect works, but I want to be able to play Spotify from the Volumio App. It looks like it should work but it just doesn't play.

Sorry if I misunderstood what you meant but your post read to me that you were suggesting that people who couldn't get Spotify connect to work should install the old Spotify Connect plugin. In case others thought the same I thought it worth mentioning that this wasn't the original advice.  As @gbr has helpfully confirmed, a separate Spotify Connect plugin is no longer needed.

Out of interest, why do you want to use the Volumio app rather than the Spotify one? I'd have thought the latter was rather better?

Fair point. I was under the mistaken impression of the purpose of the two plugins. Thanks for helping to clarify that.

I have a use case with multiple users that don't have Spotify Accounts. As far as I can tell, I should be able to put my Spotify credentials into Volumio (this works). Then anyone can use the Volumio App to browse Spotify on the SHD (this works) and play something (this fails).
