Volumio app on Android 10. Minidsp connected on Lan. The app continues to work, you can manipulate the buttons/actions when it crashes, but impossible to get the sound out until I restart everything.

My advice to you would be to stop using the Volumio phone app and use the web interface on your phone instead. I have a shortcut saved on my phone home screen so the way it runs is basically indistinguishable from it being an app but it apparently has the major advantage of not crashing. I use Chrome on my phone for what it's worth but I expect other browsers will work just fine too. Oh, and note the appearance of the web interface when opened on a phone is not just identical to what you'd see on a laptop/desktop - it is more optimised for the phone screen than that just like a normal app.

See page 24 of the user manual if you aren't sure what I'm referring to.

Purely for music playback, another option on Android phones is to use the Bubbleupnp app.

Will give it a try, strange that I didn't think about using the web version. For BubbleUpnp, as far as I remember, the free version allows a limited queue only. If an album has more tracks, you cannot play it completely without intervention. But I know when I started using the Minidsp mid 2021 I had an overall preference for BubbleUpnp over Volumio. Just didn't want to pay on top of the music streaming service. If you can get your music for free over bluetooth to the speakers it feels weird to pay for doing the same thing over Wifi/Lan, especially when your equipment is called a streamer and has a music player built in.

I've played a few albums using Bubbleupnp in the past without noticing this issue but possibly none had enough to trigger the issue. Possibly have another try in case the functionality has changed though.

Mostly I run Volumio via the web interface on my laptop rather than my phone though.

I really recommend to buy bubble upnp. It is such a great app. If it was 50€ I could understand your thoughts. But it does cost less than a long drink. You certainly spend more money on less useful things…

Actually, the web version has the same behavior. Once you reach the end of a playlist or just the latest song in your queue, and you do not pay attention to launch something new, Volumio or Minidsp stops to work and I need to start the device which takes more than just a few seconds, rather 2min. Strange behavior.... it seems there is a kind of timeout programmed, once Volumio and Minidsp operate "idle" they disconnect and you cannot launch a new song anymore.

Always referring to use of the Qobuz plugin......

I'm very confused as to why this might be happening to you as I don't have this problem at all. I generally just play whole albums via qobuz and don't have Volumio set to play continuously so it stops at the end of each album and I've literally never had the problem you're describing. I'd ask miniDSP Support about this if you haven't already.

I think it might be a lot related to Qobuz servers. I typically rather select songs, or do jumpos in my playlist or new albums I want to discover, so the queue needs to update frequently, selection of titles is sometimes doing weird things..... and all by allowing the highest quality. On the other hand, Minidsp is on 1gb LAN connection on a max.200mb subscription with the internet provider. Speedtests are all more than sufficient: WIFI connection is good with average 70mb/s down and 20mb/S up

I just updated + purchased Bubbleupnp, let's see.....

But to stick a little bit to the topic: I expect a lot of overall improvements with Volumio 3 and hopefully updated plugins, available on Minidsp.

I have been having the same problems you describe with Qobuz via Volumio. I have asked miniDSP support for help: I was fobbed off.
